Tap at berliner Biermeile. Roast, light smoke aroma. Murky brown, offwhite head. Chewy, roast, chocolate, pipe smoke , funnel cake doughyness. Restrained smoky, ok dunkles.

330ml bottle. Cloudy mahogany colour with ruby red glimmer and average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Overall cautious smoky aroma, fruity hints of apple, red apple, baked apple, a touch of pear. Taste is oaky-smoky with a bacon touch, sweetish hints of apple, baked apple, pear, minimally tart fruity counterweight.

Clear deep redbrown colour, moderate frothy beige head, recedes after a while, light lacing. Smoked aroma, roasted malt, caramel. Taste medium sweet and bitter, smoked ham, bit woody. Medium body, oily to watery texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste light sweet and bitter, mild roasted malt, bit smokiness remains till the finish. Nice friendly Rauchbier, not so outspoken as its Bavarian counterparts.

bottle, kindly donated by kappldav123! Chestnut-brown with a beige head. Smoke in the nose. Medium-bodied, dark malts dominate, some earthy hops towards the finish, but the smoke is hardly detectable. Still, quite nice!

My last beer of the 2014 Berlin Green Week: I always finish off in Hall 12, where the everything id dedicated to German beer and food. There are normally about 30 different breweries within that hall, each selling a few brews of their own or a small selection. This dark brown brew was poured into a tall badged glass from the tap and it looked a picture. The smoky aroma and taste took me back to Bamberg even though this was brewed in Saxony. A great example of the style, like a smoked ham or bacon in flavour and with that same smell too. This is mid-strength when comparing with Bambergs better Rauchbier choices and it suited me fine. An ideal beer to finish off a wonderful day and evening tasting food and drink from around the world.

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass dark black, nice head. Wonderful malty-smokey aroma. Starts fine malty, intense smokey, notes of bacon without being too much. Some earthy-woody hints. Finish wonderful balanced. A bit less smokey, warming malty. A great beer!
