Dark copper body, with almost no head. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate, dark fruits, some liquorice. Tastes similar. Moderate oily mouthfeel. Finishes medium boozy, medium sweet, with toffee, liquorice, some dark fruits. This is missing some more richness for a Barley Wine and I also don't get much of the bourbon barrel. Quite sweet and boozy. Score: 7 / 4 / 7 / 3 / 15

Nice smell. full body, light carbonation. tastes corn sirup, light oak, vanilla, peppery, light spices, earthy. finishes lightly bitter with notes of corn sirup, peppery and earthy notes. Nice one, rather light, not sweet at all, not any barrel noticeable

Bottle from Modern Liquors. Murky brown pour, lasting creamy head. Big malty aroma, some wood, some booze. Taste continues the malt assault , caramel, chocolate, tootsie rolls. Barrel aging adds some heat, and compliments in a nice way. Wow!

Sample at Aficionado’s during the "Big Bad Bottle Share" on 02/10/2017. The beer is a cloudy brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily to a film. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, caramel malt and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, roast malt, caramel and ripe fruit. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 mL bottle shared at Ale Alpharetta. Cloudy brown, with no head. Nose of apricots, toffee, oak, vanilla, and cloves. Syrupy sweet, and only a bit bitter. Heavy body, syrupy, sticky, and clean, with very little hint of the alcohol. Overall, a very nice treatment, and a solid, balanced, and easy beer.

Location: 750 ml bottle from my father, 3/12/15, 2014 Release, Palindromic Rating #4334
Aroma: The nose is caramel and toffee mostly, a little bourbon, and vanilla
Appearance: It pours a murky reddish-orange color with almost no head and very light, spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is similar to the nose component-wise, fairly sweet, and some booze
Palate: The body is fairly full, a little sticky, with a soft-to-flat carboantion
Overall Impression: No pop on the cork pull. No head on the pour. I was worried this one might be totally flat, and while the carbonation is fairly low, it ends up somewhere between soft and flat, which works fine.

Bottle courtesy of winter santa 14/15. Thank you RobertDale! Pours deep reddish golden with a small frothy and bubbly yellowish beige head that leaves lots of spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with sticky caramel, sweet dark bread, vanilla fudge, grapefruit juice, dried pineapple, resinous wood, caramelized nuts, bourbon alcohol, pine cones, moist soil, orange peal and lemon peal. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and boozy with caramel, sweet bread, vanilla fudge, charred wood, grapefruit juice, resinous wood, bourbon alcohol, dandelion, grapefruit pith, orange peal and lemon peal. Mouthfeel is soft, round, heavy astringent, boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, vanilla fudge, grapefruit, resinous wood, pine cones, moist soil, walnut skins, dandelions, bourbon alcohol, grapefruit pith, orange peal and lemon peal. This beer hits you in the head and kicks you when you’re down but you learn to like it. Way too bitter citrus pith and dandelion bitterness but the malt base is solid and the aroma hops are great. The booze works with the astringency making it hard to drink but once your taste buds are down and out you’ll enjoy the rest of the bottle. Lower the alcohol slightly, adapt the hops to let the malt shine through more and leave it in the barrel a bit longer and I’m sure this would be a top barley wine. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bourbon Barleywine on 06 Mar 2015 at 21:02 - Score: 7.
