Mesquite Smoked Porter

22oz bottle thanks to Eric pours out a dark brown almost black topped tan head. Nose is big smoke ash beef jerky and coffee. Taste is more of the nice big smoke meat notes a campfire all nice and warm.

Bottle at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2014. Very dark maroon color, brown head. Nice aroma of burnt embers, smores dropped in campfires. Taste is rich, roasty with charred edges. Tasty.

Comes together ok. Finishes with some light bitterness. Pretty good. Smoked malt with roasty chocolate, very nice for smoked beer. Bottle shared at Epic Sour Tasting.

Bottle shared at DC Annual Epic Sour Tasting. Dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, chocolate. Tastes of light smoke, dark chocolate, roast. Medium body with a dry finish.

Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a big tan head. Smoke and light bacon aroma with light fruitiness. Malt and smoke flavor with light bacon, light fruitiness, and light roast. Medium bodied. Light roast and light chocolate lingers with smoke and light fruitiness.

Aroma: The nose is full of smoked meat, some charred wood, coffee/roast, and chocolate notes
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a fizzy light brown head and some drippy lace
Flavor: Tastes much the same, heavy smoked meat/malts, a little roast, and a mild bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full, it has a rather fizzy carbonation, and a smokey finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty tasty smoked porter and one of the better examples of the style I can recall trying. My only qualm, and it's a small one, is that the beer is completely over-carbonated. This is the first thing I have had from Ranger Creek, and these guys did a really nice job with this one. If this is any indication of their skill level, look forward to trying more beers from them.

Bomber. Huge carbonation, way too much. Pours a black hue with that large beige head. a light smoky nose with some cocoa. The flavor is excellent: rich dark fruit, cocoa, chocolate, some big meaty smoke. Balanced. Lingering metallic roast notes and smoke. Great brew.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass; batch 10, bottled 9/19/2012. Pours fairly clear almost pitch black color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a lot of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malt, smoke, coffee, apple, pear, wood, smoked meat, light floral, and light roasted earthiness. Pretty nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted notes; but it is definitely infected, but it is not that terribly offensive in the aromas as it warms up. Taste of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, smoke, wood, smoked meat, light char, floral, light pepper, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, smoke, coffee, smoked meat, light char, wood, floral, light pepper, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted notes and smokey flavor; with a great balance of malt/smoke; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and lightly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice smoked porter. Luckily the infection seemed to only be noticed in the aromas. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted malt and smokey flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Courtesy of dcschiller. It pours mahogany with a tall rocky tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sort of smoky, sort of dusty and also sort of off-ness. Hmm? The taste is prickly with carbonation giving up roasted malts, molasses, a mild level of smoke and some tartness. It end with dark roasted malts as well as coffee and an odd off-putting tartness.
