Berliner Weisse

Troublesome's meaner cousin will flail your tongue as hard as he can, but being such a little guy, you'll probably just pucker a bit. Spawned through an overnight kettle souring with our house lactobacillus culture, the wort emerges furious at what we did to it. Then, just because, we pitch a saison yeast and allow it to free rise to it's further distain. It comes out angrier than... uh, angrier than... well, something really angry. But at 3.8% ABV there's no reason for you to be too afraid.

Malts: Pils, Wheat, Flaked Wheat
Hops: A little
Secret Ingredients: Lactobacillus, Napoleon complex

Bottle. This was good. Dark yellow, hazy appearance. initially a large head that fades quickly. yeast in the aroma, and flavor has wheat. It is sour, and probably more sour than most of its style. Good.

Bottle. Pours pretty clear pale golden, large white fizzy head dissipates quickly but leaves decent residual and lacing. Aroma is wheat, lemons, dusty. Flavor is dry, light tart, loads of citrus and citrus zest, wheat, dust. Light body, fairly high carbonation. This is quite good actually, and is something I would love to be able to drink all day long.

Bottle from Binny?s. Zesty sour smell is kind of invigorating. Fizzy white head. Has a similarly zesty taste, with grapefruit juice up front, acidulated wheat malt just adding to its tartness. Clean, champagne-like bubbles make the alcohol song up my throat faster. A winner to drink while watching Lon Chaney, Jr. In "Dead Man?s Eyes" and live-Tweeting #Svengoolie.

Quite clear and quite light yellow. Almost looks like pale cider. Even smells a little tart like cider. First taste is oh so good. Very tart and very yummy. A very good example of the style and it is so refreshing with its cutting carbonation. Very very good I say. No hint of alky in this what ever, just a nice soft tart brew that is fun fun fun. I was impressed with the yuzu version and ditto with this brew, just a fun loving civilized example of what beer can be. Probably more like a wild beer than a Berliner but so what, I like both styles.

Bottle: Slightly hazed yellow-gold with a thin white head. Lemon, grain aroma. Taste is nicely tart, lemon, lactic wheat malt...almost creamy..but still biting and acidic. Very good.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear pale gold color and is topped by a large white head that settles to a dense creamy white head. Splendidly intense lemony wheat nose. Tart sour wheat flavor has the obvious lactobacillus character you’d expect of the style. Lemony and yeasty. Light bodied and refreshing. Nicely done and faithful to the Berliner style.

Not sure why rate beer tells us to pour BW’s into bowls, I really hope that will change some day.
Anyways, well, this was poured into a stange as research does suggest that BW’s should be poured in \"tight\" glassware as such.
The appearance was a light yellow transparent color with a fast rising carbonation seen rising to fill a quickly dissipating foamy to bubbly head. There wasn’t any lacing.
The smell had the sour wheat up front, slightly sticky, crisp lemon runs into blend nicely. Tart to sweet grassiness runs underneath.
The taste was mainly sour with a nice level of tart and balanced by a dry crisp dry lemon and somewhat sweet in the aftertaste leading into a quick dry sweet sticky finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionable aspect to it. Carbonation hits my tongue nicely. Tartness hits dryly on my tongue as expected.
Overall, I say this was a nice Berliner Weisse. Everything fits, I’d have this again.
