Whether you’re boiling away in the sugarhouse or soaking in the early spring sun between the clouds, Steeplejack makes a great complimentary beverage. The rye provides a subtle spicy character which plays well off of the beechwood smoked german malt. Neither flavor is overpowering, nor are they lost in the overall profile. A blend of different roasted and specialty malts bring further depth and complexity to the beer while the drier character makes for a robust porter which doesn't feel too heavy. Notes of toasted pumpernickel, vanilla, and a touch of smoke.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to mug.
Appearance: dark brown close to black color with a two finger khaki foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: pumpernickel bread, dark chocolate, sweet roast, a touch of vanilla and some campfire smoke
Flavor: meld the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet bready to vanilla and chocolatey sweet quality; finishes semi-dry with a touch of rye and a touch of vanilla
Texture: medium bodied, sessionable; some smoothness but also a little bit of some nicks from the rye to the tongue - mostly non-offensive
Overall: pretty nicely done rye porter I would return to.
