Brewed to celebrate our five year anniversary, this was fermented with wild yeast harvested from Saanich Peninsula fruit. Full-bodied for a sour beer, with a rich, bracing currant base. Red as blood with bold notes of funky Brettanomyces, tempered by a year’s storage in a mix of French and American oak.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / near black with a medium tan / brown head with a reddish tinge. Aroma brings out dark dried fruits, wild yeast, and oak barrels. Flavour is all over the place, with wild yeast, dried dark fruits, some oak barrels, and a touch of funk. Very thick palate for a sour, even a dark sour. Very flavourful, but lacking elegance and complexity. Solid attempt here, but not so enjoyable. Perhaps I'll try this again in 6-12 months to see if this has progressed. 7 4 6 3 12 3.2 / 5
EDIT: definitely improved with age. Much more complex, balanced and drinkable. Now it's a great beer.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark red with moderate purple head that dissipates quickly. Initial sulphury aroma settles down to a thick jammy currant and vegetable notes. A combination of vinegar, currents, beets, vanilla, and black cherries. Odd and interesting. A beer infused juice concoction. Tastes like a health food drink.
