Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August!
Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

draft. pours hazy golden, thick white head. aroma was nicely fruity, sweet banana esters and yeast. Notes of wheat. flavors, lots of sweetness here. Sweet esters, and clove, banana with a touch of vanilla, med-high carbonation, thick mouthfeel, mild malty presence. Overall this is a tasty Hefe, lots of good sweetness and a nice thick yeasty/wheat finish.

On tap at Gordons in Columbus. Pours a slightly hazy light golden color. Taste is pretty light. Taste is closer to an american wheat than a german hefeweizen. My suggestion is if you are in Columbus, OH; walk down the street to Elevator for a better hefeweizen.

Banana and clove aroma.Cloudy orange color with a thin head. It tastes of oranges and clove. A bit pf marshamallow in the finish. Not a bad beer. Nothing sets it apart, but I wouldn’t have to swallow my pride to order it if I’m at a bar and there’s nothing better.

Sampler at Bolingbrook. The only ale on the taps here. Up-front clove and banana smell. Cloudy color of a darkened brass. Hefe spices in the first sip, with a faint note of bubble-gum and circus peanuts. Menu card here lists abv at 5.5%.

Location: We have a bunch of these in the metro DC area, I think I've prob been to 3 of them, including the one in "Downtown Rockville" that I visit pretty often, I've had this one on tap there many times
Overall Impression: I actually think these guys make a pretty solid hefe, it's lemony and refreshing, a good outdoor drinking beer for happy hour in their "beer garden." Give me a few of these and some of those garlic fries and I'm doing just fine!

Hazy golden coloured body with a dense white head that lasts throughout. Nice wheatie, yeastie and overall lemony smell - not bad at all! Medium-bodied; Strong astringent malt up front with a lot of yeast and citrus flavours behind. Aftertaste shows a more mellow twang with some light sweetness and a very mellow wheat flavour - nice. Overall, a pretty good and plain unfiltered hef - definitely worth trying if you are here anyways, but probably not worth a trip on its own right - try somewhere else! I sampled this half litre on draught at the Washington [DC] location today on 26-March-2009.

Draft @ Miami location. Pours cloudy orange brown with off white head. Aromas of bananas, clove and phenols. Similar flavors. Medium body with moderate carbonation. It’s OK, but something doesn’t taste quite right.
