Brewed only once a year to keep you warm during the cold winter months, the Blanche Neige (« Snow white ») isn’t your typical wheat beer. Firstly, the level of alochol is surprising and is perceived rapidly both in the bouquet and in the mouth. The spices come through immediately, giving very little room for the usual wheat beer aromas (coriander and curaçao). Cinnamon and clove dominate and the flavours are generously well-rounded thanks no doubt to residual sugars. It is therefore a very sweet beer that is best appreciated slowly.

A full white head on a clear amber body. Nose is well blended with cloves, bubble gum yeast, honey and grain. The seasonal spices play strong with cinnamon, cloves and belgian yeast leading the way. Alcohol warmth, honey and coriander supported by sweet malt.

341 ml bottle poured into my DDC tulip. Golden pour, big, frothy white head. Aroma of a belgian wit. Im getting corriander, some light citrus and tropical fruit with some subtle spcing, Carb is quite high, but does not detract, mouth feel is perfect. The finish is very low on the bitterness. The cloves really shine in the end, a big clove presence, and earthiness. Tropical fruit, with a distinct clove earthiness round out the finish, and the alcohol is incredibly well hidden. Great beer.

Draught at Bells & Whistles, Vancouver
Hazy blond color. True Belgian character blended with wheat, good sweet base, and perfumy esters, moderately spicy too; the warm alcohol is very pleasant.
Very nice.

(341mL bottle from Peluso, 9mo) Pours a lightly hazed medium orange with a small white bubbly head, slight lace. Aroma strongly clove and cinnamon, bubblegum sweetness, some light fruity esters (banana, peach). On the palate, slightly sweet wheat malt core, stone fruit, clove and cinnamon (the latter in the finish more) or maybe five spice powder, candied orange rind. Faintly sour yeasty edge in the middle but ultimately sweet/bitter overall, with more citrus rind bitterness on the finish. Medium body, low-moderate carb, slight alcohol heat. Spice heavy wit but there’s a lot of fruitiness too. I think of this in the pantheon of spiced winter ales and it’s a pretty good one because of the other fruity, yeasty elements. Sweet, yes, but not nearly as sweet as some malt bomb winter ales, and more drinkable in small servings.
