THAT’S IT! We’re throwing down the gauntlet. Literally. If you haven’t tried craft brewed beer before, put the bottle you’re current-ly holding down and start somewhere else. This is not a good place to start. The Gauntlet is one seriously intense beer that should be reserved for only the boldest beer revolutionaries in the world. The inordinate amount of hop flavor and aroma that radiates from this creamy, froth covered liquid is enough to make this Brewmaster blush. If that sounds good to you, you can safely break your time on this earth down into 2 categories; the time before you tried The Gauntlet, and the time after. If not, the $5.00 50 packs are on the left

Location: 750 ml bottle from State Line, 1/24/15, Rating #4250

Aroma: It has a fruity aroma, a bit of astringency/cleaner, with resin and pine coming through later
Appearance: It pours an unclear orange color with a small beige head and some spotty, coating lace
Flavor: Flavor-wise, there's a decent hop bitterness, slightly astringent, with a mild sweetness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a soft-to-average carbonation, and a rather dry, astringent finish
Overall Impression: This is an alright DIPA, but it falls short for me. The hops and hop flavors are not all that well rounded. I found it a bit too flawed. Too much astringency. Still, its a decent beer, but in this style, it is on the lower end for me.

Sample at Bruery Provisions. Slightly cloudy orange-amber pour with a medium off-white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Piney hops and caramel malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, sweet malt and caramel. The finish is short and leaves a moderately bitter hops aftertaste. Slightly above average IIPA all around.

750 mL pours copper with tall light tan head. The aroma is spicy hops with muted yeasty spices and some citrus hops around the edges. The taste starts smooth with sweet malts quickly becoming spicy and citrus hops with a bit of pine hops too. As the taste progresses the firm load of hops get more and more bitter as the maltiness fades away. It ends hoppy and amazing but seems to start a bit timid. Overall a weak aroma for the style.
