Inspired by the Rauch Bier’s of Bamberg, Germany, Abandon Ship Smoked Lager contains German Malted Barley smoked over Beechwood and fermented cold with lager yeast. Imagine a Märzen/Oktoberfest-style base beer with a sweet, smoky aroma and flavor. Deep amber hues and low bitterness help the non-smoked crystal malts compliment, not contrast, the smoky/savory taste of this beer.

On tap. Pours with a hazy brown body covered by a large tan head. Aroma is rich with molasses, smoke, caramel and brown sugar. Taste is smokey, honey, wood, earthiness, bbq glaze and brown sugar. Lively bubbles. Rich for the ABV. Good. I can imagine this would go well with food.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Dark brown pour with a solid off-white head. Nose of lightly burnt malts, smokey ham and band-aid. More band-aid in the flavor, along with some smoke and sugar. Medium body with a mild smokey aftertaste. Not bad overall.

Draught Fine head over copper-chestnut coloured beer. Smokey nose, slightly phenolic, Lapsan Souchong tea; Sweet and smoked - a bit too sweet, somehow molasses-like, and again Lapsan, as well as some smoked ham. Reasonably bodied, quite smooth and slick.
