This Irish style red ale is bold & smooth, brewed with blends of Caramel 80 and roasted malt to give it a rich finish. Generous amounts of Fuggles and Willamette hops brings out a wonderfully complex aroma. A late winter/early spring brew.

Friend of mine bring this over from his vacation in the States. Nicely sweet bitter tasting beer with fine hints of caramel and toasted malts. You can say Arkansas meets Kilkenny. Old paper ratings before Ratebeer, so why not rate them in hindsight.

Sample at the brewpub. Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lace. Malt, caramel and slight hops in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, fruit and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Average overall.

Bottle: Pours a reddish orange with a thin beige head. Nose is slightly sweet and almost fruity, maybe berries?, and kind of earthy. First sip suggests moon shine was mixed in… what? An odd taste that I associate with jet fuel. Some caramel and more berries, doughy. Maybe the yeast was off… I just don’t like this at all.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 4/30/12

Aroma: The nose is pretty sweet, nutty malts, toast, toffee, and caramel
Appearance: It pours a caramel color with a thick, lasting, small bubbled, beige head
Flavor: This one is fairly heavy sweet and malty, basically the nose plus some light fruity flavors
Palate: This beer drinks pretty smoothly, with a fairly soft carbonation, and a light-medium body
Overall Impression: This is a drinkable, but underwhelming offering. It is malt heavy, a little too sweet, and lacking in balance. At its best, this is one is no better then just alright.

Huge thanks to Butters for giving this to me so I can complete the United States. Hooray! 12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel, plums and floral hops. The taste is toasted malts, caramel, stone fruits and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

on tap at the brewery pours light amber with a medium tan head. Aroma is toast, nuts, pine and floral hops. Flavor is outstanding, this is a style I usually don’t care for but this was the best beer I had at the brewery. Lots of caramel, toast, nuts, bread malts ending with a really fresh and strong pine hop finish. This beer has substance.
