A bigger cousin of the English Pale, India Pale Ales were originally brewed with extra alcohol and lots of hops, both of which served to preserve the beer on the long voyage from England to the colony. Dry hopped with a distinct floral essence.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/9/2017. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/earthy/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance. Slight lingering hop astringency near the end of the glass, but not overwhelming. Moderate dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation, increasing through the glass. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairly creamy/bready/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is good. Zero warming alcohol for 6.9%. Overall this is a nice IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink; despite the bitter/drying finish and higher carbonation. Good hop vibrancy and nice solid malt backing, with minimal residual sweetness. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft - Mango notes and city’s. Clearish gold with a decent white head. Tropical fruit and peel light bitterness. Sweet and sticky. Bottle - Sweet fruity hops and esters. Cloudy gold with a white decent head. Weird fruit esters and a malty backbone and a bit dusty. Not great and a bit fruit and sweet.

Very inexpensive for the wallop[ it provides. Giant rototilling india pale ale kick in the jaw. Finish is rototilling down into my gullet. You want personality, you got it, right in yer face.

Draft at the Ohio University Inn. Clear golden yellow color, tiny white head. Aroma has lots of citrus. Taste is lemon and tropical fruit. Not bad.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange-tan body with a frothy, steady white head. Lemony sweet alcohol tinged aroma. A pretty big, well hopped IPA, certainly above par in the brewpub landscape. Some island fruits lost among the piny action. Caramel, toffee, golden malt. Pretty respectable stuff.

Not real hoppy or bitter, but a nice variation on the IPA. I thought of it as a robust American Pale Ale.

on tap-pours a white head that laces and gold color. Aroma is pine/resin/orange, secondary light/medium malt-caramel. Taste is pine/resin/orange hops with some drying bite, secondary light/medium malt-caramel. OK effervescence.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Dublin/Columbus. Pours a clear copper with a medium creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of floral and minty hops, caramel malts and a bit of tea. The taste is earthy, herbal hops, tea, caramel malts and grain. Medium bodied. A little weird, but pretty decent.
