Smaak is apart.

One of the first two beers of this brewery, erected in 2012 in Zeeland (the southwest corner of the Netherlands) but named after a Belgian brewery that was active in East Flanders till 1932. Moderately thick, pale beige, irregular but stable head, colour a very deep bronze with somewhat orangey hue, dark enough to call it a dark beer rather than an amber, cristal clear but cloudy after adding the deposit. Powerful aroma of sweet spices, even soapy almost like bathpearls, strong aniseed and lavender, supported by more subtle hints of caramel, nutmeg, grapefruit, chocolate, mango, tree bark, liquorice and nuts. Taste at first a bit neutral and mineral-like, fresh citrus, then strongly spicy built on a nutty and caramelly malt base, supple mouthfeel, towards the end increasingly hoppy only to end in a widely fanning, powerful, earthy hop bitterness, grapefruit- and tonic water-like, very long. An interesting ale with lots of personality, stylistically a Belgian-style spiced ale, but also a bit bizarre and certainly memorable.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of fruits, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruits, straw, citrusy hops, and yeadt, leading ro a dry finish.
