Old rating - A 750 ml bottle picked up from the brewery in 2015. As everything else from this brewery, it's an outstanding barley wine with lovely ageing of oak. Different bottle of beer in my home No. 1945

Bottle at De Markies, Leeuwarden. Aroma of sweet malt, wood, dried fruits, apple, caramel, raisins, herbal notes. Flavour is medium sweet with a light sourish note. Body is full, nicely balanced and smooth. Not as well-realised as the regular Abt 12, I think. Nevertheless, a fine beer.

750ml shared with Ryan and Kulminator's regulars (Ernest, Pedro, Fox). Appearance: clear copper with tan head. Aroma: creamy notes, sweetness. Taste: same, a bit boozy, dark fruits. Overall: ok, but not sure what oak aging adds to this beer.

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Clear nut brown, coarse head. Aroma of dates, caramel and marzipan. Mid sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Dark bread and marzipan meets peppery calvados and salmiak. Drier warming mid bitter finish. Elegant and complex.

Bottled 750ml (vintage abt 2013, PET sessions)
Nut brown colour, medium-sized beige head. Fermented raisins, dates, some Calvados in the nose. Light to medium-bodied. Raisins, dates, apple, Calvados, some alcohol. Mellow, semi-sweet. Aged perfectly in Patrik's cool cellar. Great beer.

Bottle from a trade. Waited 7+ years to try this. Nose is apples, caramel, raisins, fudge, orange. Bit apple / calvados on top of the lovely old St. B 12. Clear dark brown with a thick, low head. Flavor is caramel, chocolate, molasses, apple brandy, spicy yeast, raisin, fig, dried plum. Finish is oak. Absolutely not cloying. Still nicely carbonated. Fantastic all the way. Love it.

Corked bottle. Dark brown color. Malt, caramel, apple and calvados in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor, caramelly. Roast, aple, oak, calvados. Sightly alcoholic. I very much doubt if calvados barrels are most suited for oak aging this beer. Nevertheless a pleasure to drink.
