We wondered what would happen if a monstrous pumpkin ale, plump full of spicy gourdiness, were aged in fine fresh rum barrels to add suggestions of delicate oak and candied molasses. Rumpkin is what happened! This first member of the Annual Barrel-Aged Series was brewed with roasted pumpkins from a local Boulder County farm, and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.

It’s got that hint of what I can describe as old bay. It’s delicious. GIVE ME PUMPKIN!

Bottle at home. Clear copper with small beige head. Loads of chrismas spices, rum, sugar syrup. Quite cloying.

(Bottle) Dark reddish amber colour with foamy, tan head. Fruity, vinous nose with raisins, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, rum, oak wood, pumpkin, nuts and cinnamon. Malty, fruity, vinous taste with notes of raisins, rum, oak wood, chocolate, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, brown sugar, walnuts and a warming, boozy finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, really sweet. Hardly shy and balanced, but quite tasty with pumpkin, rum and spices. As boozy as expected (quite...). Nice one.

backlog, bottled Aug 1, 2017. Drank.. umm... early 2020, I think. Pours a hazy burnt orange color It smells of caramel malt, pumpkin pie spices, pumpkin, and alcohol. The flavor is very sweet and sugary with nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin, and malt. Rum? I can't really tell. The very high alcohol content is buried by a massive dose of sugary malt. There's too much of that. It ends up being flavor and fairly good, but it's too sweet and to me not good enough to justify the very high price point.

Taster at bottle share, 2015 vintage. Aroma brings some pumpkin pie notes, sweet, hint of spice. Taste hits with a the right amount of booze, sweet, and strong. Nice savory notes top off the whole package.

Smells like liquid pumpkin pie with a rum chaser. Texture’s nice as well, thick and full without much warmth (considering the ABV). But the flavor...I hate hate hate this beer. Just a pummeling onslaught of cloying sweetness coupled with overbearing nutmeg and cinnamon, finishing with waves of clinging saccharine awfulness. One sip and I’m done. Undrinkable.
