We wondered what would happen if a monstrous pumpkin ale, plump full of spicy gourdiness, were aged in fine fresh rum barrels to add suggestions of delicate oak and candied molasses. Rumpkin is what happened! This first member of the Annual Barrel-Aged Series was brewed with roasted pumpkins from a local Boulder County farm, and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.

Bottle: Poured a reddish caramel with little to no head. Aroma was super rum spicy and pumpkin. Taste had that spiced rum effect with nice pumpkin.

12 ounce bottle bought at Uptown Market. Pours a clear mahogany chestnut color with a small white head that dies down to nothing. A massive boozy spicy nose, the rum/pumpkin mix is wonderful. Sticky sweet, big sugary rum, spices, pumpkin but the overall flavor isn’t nearly as boozy or difficult as a 18% pumpkin beer would seem to be. Hot cherries, burnt toffee, rum and heat in the finish. Quite good. For what it is, this is awesome.

Sample at Kurtkeller 022: Pumpkin-tastic 03 on 10/31/2015. Hazy ruby-amber color with a medium frothy light brown head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. The aroma consists of ginger, pumpkin and rum. Full-bodied sipper with flavors of pumpkins, charred marshmallow, vanilla and rum. The finish is boozy rum with a lingering baked pumpkin and vanilla aftertaste. Good beer all around.

2011 vintage. Pours hazy burnt orange color with thin off white head. Aromas of rum, oak, pumpkin pie spices. Similar flavor with some booziness. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation. Good stuff.

Bottle Clear deep copper/amber. Big malty caramel brown sugar aroma. Sweet and boozy but well attenuated for the high ABV. Clean and very strong. A well done very strong sipper.

12oz bottle thanks to Chris. Pours out a copper amber topped with a ring of ahead. Nose is pumpkin spice sweetness barrel vanilla and plenty booze. Taste is more of the heavy sweetness pumpkin spice.

Clear, drab copper-beige with some light auburn tints and a small, fleeting beige head.
Alcohol, pie spicing, candied fruits and not a ridiculous amount of rum or pumpkin (though they’re certainly both present). With warming, obviously, the booze and spice do get pretty unbearable.
First sip is sweet, nearly syrupy but for the loosening effect of the rum/booze. Warm pumpkin pie and spices makes an appearance but is massively outdone by the candied sweetness. Light citrus and fruitiness on the edges. Low carbonation not helping the cause, leaving a heavy, cloying, boozy effect on the palate. How anyone rates this thing above a 2 is beyond me....Just disgusting.
