What’s that bite of tartness doing in a pumpkin beer? Adding the unexpected kick of cranberry juice to brighten this traditionally spiced seasonal ale. Pumpkick is brewed with plenty of pumpkin juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, but it's the cranberries and touch of lemongrass that send your taste buds sailing.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy, golden, tan with a white frothy head that dissipates slowly. Strong pumpkin, nutmeg, and allspice aromas. Taste is medium sweet with strong flavors of pumpkin, nutmeg, and allspice. There are lemon and citrus undertones too. Body is medium, texture is a little thin and sticky, carbonation is average, and the finish is slightly sour (lemony).
Overall, an okay beer whose aroma is slightly better than its taste. I’m not sure if I would buy it again, but I’m not unhappy that I bought a 6-pack to try.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Cloudy golden color. Pumpkin pie aroma, dry-ish mouthfeel, mild cinnamon flavor, some apple touch.
At least it’s not heavy…

Hazy amber, thin head. Spicy, any pumpkin? This has a fair bit of sweetness, sugary, fairly spicy. Clean, basic pumpkin beer.

Draft - Spiced pumpkin pie notes. Cloudy amber with a small beige head. Pumpkin and light spice. Not too sweet or spicy but not getting any of the cranberries or lemongrass. Not bad for a pumpkin beer.

Normally I hate pumpkin beers (and August is still way too soon to release a fall seasonal). Anyway, I feel like NB had a good idea to add the cranberry juice, which to borrow from their commercial description, "brightens" it up. The little kick of acidity prevents this from being overly pumpkiny and the spicing is mercifully mild. Honestly they could probably drop the spices to make this just a little better. Light bodied, semi-sweet. Elements of all the ingredients are found in the aroma and flavor, with the pumpkin and cranberry more or less sharing equal footing.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of nutmeg and cinnamon upfront, with maybe a little pumpkin pure. Flavour is uninspired, with a lot of nutmeg and cinnamon. Not much actual pumpkin. A spice bomb. Decent.

Smells like slightly spiced pumpkin, not like pumpkin pie. Slight haze on a light brownish orange ale. Initially it does have a slight undesirable pumpkin spice to it but the cranberry tartness makes it a little more acceptable. Yes, almost makes me think it comes across a little wild. Just enough tartness to tart it up but not enough to make it artificial. Not too bad for a pumpkin beer. I’m not one to enjoy punky beers but this was not too unacceptable.

Sampled at the brewery, 11/24/15. Clear orange color with an off white head. Lots of pumpkin pie type spice here with some underlying malt notes as well. Nice pumpkin overall.
