Draft at Roofers Union, 11/20/16. Dark brown pour, creamy light brown head. Roasted malts, coffee, some chocolate, citrus, and earth. Malt-foward, roasty, with a solid hop presence too. Medium body, average carbonation.

12 oz can shared by DCLawyer, thanks Jason! Canned in February 2016. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of roasty notes, licorice, light cocoa. Tastes of light floral notes, malt, roasty notes, licorice, light hops. Medium body with a dry finish. Pretty good, not as hoppy as most other black IPAs though.

Comes together well, and leans more on the roasty side than the hoppy side. In other words more of a stout than an IPA. Pours black with good head and lacing. Medium bitter finish with a touch of sweetness. Some dark chocolate. Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown.

Deep dark brown body with a very rich dense tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, alcohol and a very bright and pungent grapefruity hop nose. Medium-bodied; Dense roasted malt flavour up front with a good hop bitterness and a solid sweetness from caramel and toffee right behind. Aftertaste shows a pleasant earthiness and roasted set of flavours with a balanced and quite pungent (to cut through the roastiness) hop bitterness. Overall, a very well done Black IPA and one that I’m happy came from my city - definitely worth a try if you can find it at all! I sampled this on draught at Founding Farmers in Washington (Washington Circle) DC on 14-September-2013 for US$7.00 / pint.

Draught @ Smoke & Barrel, Washington, D.C. Pours cloudy nearly black with stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and roast with a touch of caramel. Sweetish flavour of malt and caramel, with notes of hops and subtle hints of coffee. Bitter and slightly sourish aftertaste. Warming alcohol presence. Really nice.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours an inky black with some frothy, beige head. Nose is very nice, dried citrus peel, crackermeal, coffee grounds, a little bit of dried fruit, some rubber. Flavor has some dried citrus, but plenty of malt too, some sweetness but not sticky, rubber, some nice toasted bread, dried malt, a little licorice. Fairly clean finish. Hid the alcohol very well. Nice beer.
