Originally conjured up from the Dark Arts as a pretty piece of prestidigitation for Wellington on a Plate, Smoke & Mirrors is a bock beer of clean, rich malt complexity with caramel notes, just a touch of beech wood smoke and a little slight of hand. A tricky balance of savoury smoke and malt sweetness make it a magical match with food. Levitate a glass and practice your own vanishing act. Now you see it, now you don't.

Rated on June 7th, 2014. Lighter brown, small head. Aroma is nicely sticky, malt candy. Sort of like a barleywine, a small barleywine. It is supposed to be a dunkel... Taste is not that sweet but still. Hops are more subdued, caramel sweetness lingers. Dry mouthfeel. Does not feel like a dunkel at all. Overall interesting but a little too sweet for my taste.

Med brown color, with russet tinges. The nose is very sweet, too sweet malt character, with a touch of glazed honey ham. The mouth is too sweet, but shows nice depth of tootie rolls, cherries, brandy with sweet chocolatiness. A touch cloying. Great depth, but the sweetness is highly distracting from the over all beer.

The taste is wood, resin, caramel, smoke, citrus peel, toast, toffee, date and raisin with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot to it. Alreeeet.
