We were inspired for this special, cloudy abbey beer by how the monks of old used to brew small amounts of beer for their own consumption. After all, the Fathers are entitled to a tasty glass of beer to quench their thirst too. But aware of their obligations as they were, they created a version with less alcohol. This allowed their minds to stay clear for work and prayer. Fortunately, the lower alcohol content had no effect on the characteristic abbey beer flavour.

High hopes for this one, but taste is thin dry hay malts mildly sweet, a little orange, but really I'm burying the lead as there is a solid bitter off flavour over the whole thing. Bad bottle? Bottle from the LCBO

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is pale malt, peppery yeast, fruity notes with citrus peel, quite yeasty, some floral notes and fruity hops. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and nicely bitter with a fairly dry finish. Body is medium. Yeasty and bitter, not too sweet, a fine Belgian Ale.

330ml bottle from Dunell's in Jersey. Pours golden with a large white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of flora, light fruits, herbs, spice & malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish

Bottle from HoTM. It pours cloudy blonde with a rugged, fluffy white head. The aroma is much more herbal than the blonde, damp grass, candy, pear drops, melon, banana split and icing sugar. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, fragrant, floral, bitterness, pithy, zesty lemon, grassy, herbal, leafy, some stone fruits, apricot and hearty bready malt with a dry, herbal finale. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Decent stuff.

Aroma is quite spicy herbal yeasty. Flavor is also quite spicy herbal , faint fruity notes good dryness, very well balanced , lots of flavor for the 5.5 pct.

Fles gedeeld door Inoven. Het is een troebel goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige en kruidige geur. De smaak is vol moutig, zacht grassig en kruidig.

Appearance: Cloudy gold with a tall white frothy head of excellent retention. Aroma: Pale malt, well delivered spicy Belgian yeast, grass. Taste: Bread, crackers, pleasant spicy yeast, a notable amount of grassy hop. Mouth feel: Light to medium body, Average carbonation. Overall: Not bad.
