Bottle courtesy of noodleuser, thanks! Completely black color, small beige head. Aroma of smouldering cocoa bars and burning coffee beans. Taste is campfire, bacon, licorice. Delicious.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color ale with a medium size foamy head with light retention and some light lacing. Aroma of smoky malt with light rye notes and some warming alcohol is quite nice. Taste is a great mix between some smoked malt with dry rye whisky notes which kind of help ‘’rounding the corners’’ of this beer with light roasted malt notes also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Quite a lot of complexity in this one with some nice balance between the barrel-aging and the smoked malt notes.

Bottle shared by a friend. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Smoked malt, chocolate and fruit in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of charred malt, vinous oak and subtle adhesive bandage. The finish is smoky with a bitter chocolate aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of arminjewell. Muchas gracias! Pours a dark brown appearance with a fluffy, rich brown head. Rich juicy, a bit tangy fruity, whiskey, chocolate aroma. Tangy, a bit burnt chocolate malty, light coffee, tart fruity, juicy dark berry, vanilla, woody flavor. Fruity flavor. A bit disappointing.

Courtesy of dcschiller. It pours mahogany with a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some malts, roasted malts and some smooth smoke in the background. The taste starts even, blended and fairly creamy bringing up roasted malts, some sweet molasses and smooth subtle (to not so subtle) and silky smoky goodness. This is rich creamy smooth and yummy smoked beer.

Bottle at Paul’s CPK birthday party, London, thanks to Ken. Pours red-brown with a thick, tan foam head. Nose holds some light and smokey malts, some dry fruits and toasted wood. Light sweet flavor, moderately smokey with sweet berries and dark bread. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Faintly smokey to finish, medium sweet with some toasted bread. It’s a very mellow smoked beer overall.

Bottle, thanks to Ken for this rarity. It pours very dark brown, with a thick light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, caramel, subdued smoke and Bavarian smoked ham. The taste is roasted malt, light smoke, charcoal, caramel, slight tanginess, wood, chocolate and subtle bourbon, with dry, lightly smoked finish. Nice restrained level of smokiness. Decent.

Enjoyed on tap at Goose Island Stout Fest 2012 in Chicago, IL. This variety was aged in what I believe was Koval whiskey barrels. Appearance is a rich black, moderate consistency, with a thin tan rim. Aroma of bacon, whiskey, smoke, very nice aroma. Taste is pretty good, definitely get the smoke not so much the whiskey, definitely more smoke than other smoked porter’s I’ve had out there. Enjoyable, hope to try again when my palate isn’t dominated by 20 other huge stouts in a 3 hour period.
