Even in 1895 Porter was brewed from the mountain spring in Löbau, and it was a beloved drink in the Lausitz. With our Lausitzer Porter, we successfully continue this brewing tradition.

Bottle from REWE in Dresden. One of these beer that has a bad reputation so everyone rates it low. There's nothing wrong with it at all from an off-flavour perspective. It could use more body and malt back to round out the taste, but it's certainly not bad.

Porter ist das sicher nicht. Schon eher ein Malzbier. EInfach nur ein süßes Säftchen.

Bottle shared. Dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of wort, cardboard and sweet malt. Flavour is heavy sweet, real sugary crap. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation. Dreadful.

Dark brown colour with red hue. Strangely sweet and fruity. Raisins and sugar come through.

50cl bottle from some random Spätkauf in Berlin. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruits, caramel and hints of dark berries and chocolate. Medium sweet with moderate flavour intensity and a light bitterness. Quite drinkable, but hardly interesting. Fair enough.

Good porters are not everywhere to find in Germany and I was looking forward to a new treat. Oh boy. Pours very dark brown and fizzy into the bottle. Aroma is malty, but more of a pils malt and not the dark roasted scents you might expect. Very faintly something sweet, like cherry, or candy. The first sip overwhelms with a cloying sweetness. Tastes like a cola beer mix. Looked right away at the ingredients on the bottle, and sure enough, sugar. Not an instant disqualifier, but this sweet? Made a fair go through the first half of the bottle, but nothing was developing here. Just malty, syrup sweet mess on an oily palate. Drainpour and back to the cellar for something better.
