“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

Aroma is Amber malt. Flavor is caramel malt with a little over carbonation seems forced. Maybe some adjuncts in there.

Kosmos was found at HEB’s pick-a-sixpack selection nearby. Shiner Bock is a particular favorite, their other beers not so much. I’m tilting into my New Belgium globe glass today and seeing a gold body than leans towards orange. A bright white head ensues and promptly abates. I smell hops and your basic beer smell. The taste? A light presence of hops, crackers, corn and water. It carries a small bitterness. Decent and straightforward.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark bronze color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet perfume, grass, and phenol. The flavor was sourish with hints of caramel, bread, perfume and grass. Medium length finish. Medium body. Not good.

Dark clear amber color, medium head that did not last but left decent lacing. Not much of an aroma. Sour, corn. Carbonated and rather thin body. Not very Pleasant. Average at Best. Pass It.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange peel, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good robustness and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavor; with a nice crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate amount of dryness after the finish from bitterness. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a good hoppy pale lager style. All around good robustness and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
