Madeira Barrel Aged Barley Wine
High King is a real new adventure for Lough Gill Brewery. This "beer" smells like an "Imperial Stout", looks like a "whiskey" and tastes like a "sherry". Don`t put this bottle in the fridge, enjoy it flat as it comes out of the bottle in a nice whiskey glass, expect a new drinking experience. This Barley Wine has gone through very long fermentation and slow barrel aged maturation, it has no head, no carbonation. Dried fruits mixed with Madeira notes, added on a layer of wood flavours, hints of fresh red fruit, Honey-like dry sweetness. High King Barley Wine is a brand new experience, open your mind and let yourself into this new concept.
Craft Brewed and Aged in our independent brewery in Sligo. Scotch Whisky Barrels from Boann Distillery in Drogheda.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 02/08/2026.
Chestnut brown to amber topped with a beige cap that thins to the edge.
Nose is mellow barrel, fruit cake mix, sherry, vinous, oak, booze tunes.
Taste comprises dates, figs, toffee, spice, madeira punch, toasted brown sugar.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a good rip of booze that slaps you round the chops a little.
Solid sipper with an old skool backbone.
