Clear dark brown (but not black) beer, small light beige head, unstable and non adhesive. Aroma: mocha, coffee. MF: light carbon, light to medium body, watery texture. Taste: little sour start, mocha, coffee. Aftertaste: more coffee bitterness.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and breadish. Bitter and dark roasted malty. Slight acidic. Bitter, roasted, malty and slight chocolate. Smooth and malty finish. Ends dry.

Deep brown with a nice tan head. Smooth bodied, nitro or firkin... nice mellow roasty malts and light caramel malts, too. Not an in your face stout, just relaxed and easy going. Very solid.

Aged in cellar for a few years (not labelled by me or brewery). Deep dark brown coloured body, about 95% opaque with a large soapy light brown head - and a loud fizz when the bottle was opened - definitely seemed bottle conditioned with all the carbonation after the cellar. Aroma of alcohol, metal, cherries, oatmeal, whiskey and a bit of oak. Medium to Full-bodied; Assertive cherry and coffee flavours with some mild malt, oak and faint woodsy flavours. Aftertaste shows potency with alcohol, whiskey, cognac and even some turpentine coming through. Overall, a good beer - definitely strong, but perhaps the age assisted in that. Nice to try, a nice somewhat sweet (showing cherries throughout) beer that has plenty of malty and alcoholic kick! I sampled a few (3 maybe?) year old bottle from my cellar at home in Washington on 02-December-2009.

On tap at Good Dog bar in Philly...smells like a good dry stout...dark ass brown....well made, well balanced....lots of coffee flavor (lots)...very tasty!

I have been waiting awhile to taste this. Since the time I bought the Yards variety pack, last year, hoping to get a dark beer. Nope wasn’t in there, boy, was I disappointed. I did, however, get a very nice sassion, one of the best I’ve tasted. Nice trade off. Well, anyway, I finally get to taste this love stout. Sounds good! 12 oz brown bottle. Get the opener to pop it for a ubiquitous redolent aroma of beer. From the first smell, you may think its pale yellow. It is not until you pour it into the glass do you smell chocolate and roastyness. Very dark brownish black makes this almost opaque. I think I may be getting an olfactory hint of anise now. No head, just a dark tan girdle around the edge. Very roasty ab ovo de gustibus. Creamy roasty flavors the dance on your tastebuds. Very very nice indeed. As far as the taste of this stout goes, this is on par with bells kalamazoo. Very mellow burned malt interests. Carbonation is bucolic, low creamyness on the back of your tongue and throat, lo medium. I hope this isn’t just tasting good cause I had a good day! I detect some wet burned wood in there coming on. As a pure stout, this may be better than east end black strap, but it is because black strap should be an imp stout style. Black strap has more impressive bitterness to the palate. I do not feel any medicine like qualities in the finish, smooth and endearing. One of the better pure stouts I have tasted. Better than lags cappuccinos and saranacs B&T. This is good enough to be classified as a sweet stout.

Really dark brown with foamy tan head. Aroma is weak and really earthy with some hops notable in the form of a pine-like presence. Flavor is pretty weak, but pleasant. Burnt malt and coffee are the big tickets, but mouthfeel is really thin and it lacks some complexity.
