The flavor of our robust, hoppy American Porter originates in the chocolate and roasted malts then follows through with sharp, earthy bitterness and a rich, smooth cocoa mouthfeel.

Chocolate and prune nose with mossy clover hints, not strong. Black, with a thin tan head. Coffee and plum flavor with a bark finish. Thin mouthfeel. Decent, but nothing special.

Hop Devil Grill ($3.25): Black with a tan head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, espresso, and doesn’t make the harsh qualities stand out. Taste has moderate, but not really bitter hops in there. Along with some smoke, along with some coffee taste (more like a diner than an espresso). Very creamy body. Quite good. I liked it.

bottle thanks to TreborWhip!, pours black with a medium tan head. Some roasted malt and chocolate, but what dominates the nose is a nice, fresh, in your face hop aroma.......really nice. Smooth nutty malt with notes of chocolate and roasty smoked coffee beans. But the shining star is the hops. Mildly piney, almost floral in being delicate but pronounced enough to give a bite. The mouth is creamy to all hell, leaving a rich tan mustache with each sip. This stuff is nice, almost a style in itself. Drinkability through the roof.

Pours black into a shaker. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Citrus aromas. Upfront grapefruit turning chocolaty in the lasting finish.

Deep brown with a creamy head. Light and crisp citrus hops up front with medium chocolate and malts to finish it out. Pretty smooth body. I thought it was a bit heavy on the citrus hops but still a very nice brew. Draught at South Park Tavern, Dayton.

Bottle. Very dark brown with an inch of tan head. Milk chocolate, caramel, and roastiness. Flavor is sweet malts, chocolate, coffee, caramels, and finishes with a dark chocolate flavor. Smooth in the mouth and the flavor lingers. This is nice.

Beer "E" in our Porter Blind Tasting. Pours deep dark brown with tan to mocha head. The aroma has pine hops mixing with mild roasty malts, molasses, caramel and some grassy hops bringing up the rear. The taste is much the same with mild pine hops moving into a bit of resin followed by earthiness and roasted malts. Nice play between the hops and roast.

Location: Picked up a 6 pack of bottle at Norm's, drank it Aug '08

Overall Impression: Solid Porter, a little too hoppy for a porter if you ask me, not that I don't like hops, just changes the style of beer, but all in all a pretty enjoyable beer.

bottle - Pours near black with a thin tan head. It smells of roast chocolate malt. The flavor is a good balance of chocolate malt and good hops bitterness. It has a roasted, hop rich finish.
