Location: 12 oz bottle from Spec's - Downtown, shared with jcos, 5/23/14
Aroma: The nose is roast and pine, with a good amount of coffee/chocolate
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a tan head and some fairly heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor is much the same, coffee/chocolate, light sweet, with clean pine bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, clean and smooth, with a lasting, dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty tasty, well balanced Black IPA. Enjoyable stuff. Well made. Plenty drinkable. I have no complaints, this is a nice example of the style.

A clear dark brown ipa with a thin brown head. In aroma, beautiful citrusy pulp floral hops, grapefruit grapefruit, caramel, treacle, smooth and pleasing. In mouth, a nice smooth chocolate malt with coffee, caramel, catty hops, resinous and floral, well balanced.

12oz can pours with a dark body supporting a modest sized mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up thin layers of dark roasted malts and a touch of pine like hops. The taste begins right off with pine sap hop bitterness that seem moderately bitter, dark roasted malts and a bit of spicy black licorice. To midway it gets a little on the burnt side with malts mixing with earthy malts and a faint fir tree sensation. Pretty nice even keel brew for the style.

Can. Pours black with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has musty dark grains with some pine hops and just a touch of roasted malts. Flavor starts with dark grains but has a strong musty pine finish with a hint of roasted malts.

Can: Deep brown pour yields two fingers of tan head. Nice sticky lacing. Aroma is sweet, piney, citrus, light roast, and chocolate malts. Simple flavor, hops and chocolate malt. Good amount of pine and citrus, roast, and cocoa. I’m really getting into this style right now, mainly due to examples like this. Simple, flavorful, and it all comes together in harmony.

Tap @ brewery. Pours a clear, dark brown appearance with a thin, brown head. Super spicy, piney hoppy, burnt chocolate aroma. Quite bitter, very piney, a touch minty, charred, chocolate malty flavor. Overdone in multiple aspects.

Draft at the source. Very dark brown color, beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of pine needles dipped in coffee with a Hershey bar nearby. Taste is bitter espresso, unsweetened coffee, pine resin. A proper black IPA.

Can - pour is dark brown, nearly black - frothy off-white lace - moderate resinous, green hoppiness hits the nose first, followed by some chocolate and light roast - texture is firm up front, but a little watery near the finish - moderately bitter, with a slightly sharp acidity near the tail end - light vegetal notes - light char - an odd minty character - moderate chocolate sweetness - actually fairly mellow for the style - the hop character is nice, but the other messy aspects make it difficult to enjoy - great - now I have a whole six pack of this to get rid of.
