Beer is typically fermented in a very calculated, controlled manner with pure strains of brewers’ yeast. Our blackberry lambic beer is instead fermented by exposing it to the untamed yeasts and bacteria that are native to our Brewery. We affectionately call this unrestrained, wild amalgamation our House Funk. This blend is unique to Rivertown and this unusual, spontaneous process, involving over a year of fermentation in oak wine barrels and over 45 pounds of fresh, whole blackberries per barrel, is what gives this beer its distinctive flavor; semi-sweet, funky and vinous with a crisp, tart aftertaste that will continue to develop in the bottle for years to come.

I think my bottle here is 2 years old. Enjoyed at a tasting split 4 ways. Sort of light reddish blood hues and medium white head. Nose is very oaky with musty berries and matchsticks. Taste isn’t too bad. Lightly sour, more tart and earthy than anything. The fruit is great with a touch of copper and oak. great mouthfeel.

Bottle received by summer secret santa 2013. Thank you jsquire! Pours hazy pale blueish golden with a frothy pinkish offwhite head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sour and fruity with sourdough bread, yuzu juice, blackberries, moist hay, lemon zest, barnyard, leather sour milk and dry soil. Taste is sour, fruity and tiny funky with lemon juice, blackberries, frozen strawberries, hay, lemon zest, leather, barnyard and fruit yoghurt. Mouthfeel is dry, tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is sour and fruity with sourdough crackers. Blackberries, lemon juice, moist hay, dry soil, leather and barnyard. Tasty refreshing fruit sour!

This beer is a bright orange color with a medium thick pristine white head that dissipates gradually. Patchy lacing. Aroma of berries, wheat and yeast. Medium-bodied with flavors of raspberry, wheat, oak and yeast. The finish is moderately tart with an oaky and fruity aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle shared late night RBWG. Pours clearish amber with a foamy white head. Really nice, some grassy bitterness, dry berries, mild funk. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry finish with grass, mild sweetness, more dried fruits. Very nice.

Light haze on this amber beer, small off white head. Light sour nose. Light crisp palate, semi dry. Cherry and generic fruit sourness, little lemon. Pretty sour but not too acid. Light crisp finish. Not bad.

Shared from the bottle. Poured a slightly ruby brown color, off-white small head. Aroma was some sour fruits, berries mostly. Flavor was some nice tartness, some dried fruits, as well as some crisp notes of berries in here also some notes of sweet tarts and pixie stix. Pretty good.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle with wax around the cap, 2011 vintage, poured into a tulip. Pours slightly hazy medium/light amber with big fluffy off-white head. Aroma is vinous and oak, medium body, medium carbonation, and medium small bubble lacing. Taste is tart, oak, and a little blackberry. Best US lambic I have had.
