BBC Nut Brown Ale has a diverse grain bill which lends this traditional English ale a variety of flavors that coalesce into a remarkably smooth and pleasant drink. Additions of various pale, caramel and dark malts create a smooth, sweet malt profile with hints of roasted nuttiness. Multiple additions of English hops round out the flavors and give this classic beer a true flavor of the Old World.

Bottle thanks to beerbill. Pours with a hazy brown body and a tan head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, light sherry and vinous notes. A bit of chocolate covered raisins as well. Flavor is kind of bland. Some caramel, some raisin and vinous notes. A touch of chocolate, but it is pretty watery. Medium to light bubbles, watery mouthfeel.

Tinny aroma with light chocolate notes. Clear brown with a gigantic peach colored head. Tinny almond flavor with sweet hints of marzipan, but a little dirty. Pecan finish. Alcohol is a little insistent at times.

Draft. Brown body with some ruby highlights. Tan, diminishing head. Sweet aroma of toasted malts, toffee, caramel and nuts. Just a hint of milk chocolate. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Nutty, chewy taste, but also a slight metallic aftertaste. Medium body, watery texture and average carbonation. Straight-forward brown ale that lacks the creativity of Rogue or Dogfish Head’s versions and the complexity of Goose Island’s or Bell’s. Solid nonetheless.

Rated a bad bottle originally, so I’m not inclined to mention that score. This time re-rated at Beer Run on draft. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium sized creamy head. Good head retention. Aroma of nuts, caramel and faint stone fruits. The taste is chocolate, caramel, citrus, hops and light toastiness. Medium bodied. Score almost double. Wow that bottle was bad.

12oz bottle. Toffee brown orange color. Mild roasty aroma. Lots of dark malt flavor, very rich, borderline Porter territory. Some nuttiness does come through. MIld stuff, a lighter side of a full bodied brown. Very well done. The best Brown Ale from Kentucky that I’ve ever had.

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Reddish tinged brown color with a very slight off-white head. Aromas of chocolate! and roasted malt. Near medium in body, rather creamy carbonation. For me there’s a light sour touch, with chocolate, and mildly roasted malt. Finish is neither sweet nor bitter, and that chocolate aspect sticks to the end.

Bottle Pours out a redish brown topped with a sand head. Aroma of roast nuts and sweet chocolate. Tast more of the sweetness and plenty of malts. Not a bad browm ale.

Bottle: Chestnut brown pour with a smaller beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma is malty, earthy, and a little smokey. Lots of chocolate malt. Tastes a little dry and chalky with the heavy chocolate malt. A little bitters, but mostly that malty cocoa feel. Decent body, has potential, but a little lacking.

This beer came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a chestnut color with a very small tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy, malty and roasty. The flavor was sour, tangy, dry and roasty. The finish was dry and roasty.
