Bottle at Gainbar. Aroma is earthy, bit of citrus, Belgian yeasty. Biscuit, alright but not so exciting.

Fles gekocht in België, thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een oranjeachtig bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een zachte hoppige geur. De smaak is zacht, vol en hoppig.

330 ml. bottle sampled. Bottled 04.2015. Hazy orange, patchy off-white head. Bitterness is in the nose, unpleasant herbal, moth balls, weed with thin fizzy black bread. Body is fizzy, black bread. Taste is unpleasant rye bread, unpleasant herbal bitterness, insecticide, bitter thin unpleasant weeds. Downer, I liked the other version. Maybe this hop isn’t for me.

Licht troebel lichtbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is krachtig, bitter hoppig en blijft redelijk lang hangen. Lijkt erg op een IPA.

Bottle @ home. Hazy light orange color, medium to full sized off-white head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts and some hops, not very outspoken though. Taste malts, some hops again, a slight blossomy hint. Hmm, expected more of this. Soft carbonation, decent body. Ok but less good than I had hoped.

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy golden light brown with a medium off white head. Aroma of grass hops, herbal notes, light yeast and fruits. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with light carbonation.

Bottle. Pours clear amber, ok white head. Smell is mildly aromatic hops. I’m not familiar with Wakatu hops yet, But I’d describe it as a sweet, melon-mango like hops, with a touch of earthyness ( at least, given the fact that the smell would only consist of the hops) Taste is mildly bitter. Sugary (I really think this is sweetened with sugars) . Mild malt in the back. Crispy, in a way. The hops are present -due to dryhopping- but not nearly intensely enough to meet expectations of a beer named after the hops. As a starter, where is the bitterness? Like most Belgian hoppy beers, this seems like a beet that was finished, where they threw in some extra hops as dryhopping just to make it ’different’ and pop on the hype-train that is IPA. Well, if you ever had US-style IPA’s, this is just one other dissapointement. Its not bad on it’s own, but its so pointless. Not hoppy enough to be a hop-forward beer ( Plus the wrong yeast, not the right amount of malts, etc ) , and its too hoppy to be called any of the other styles... One of those faceless, placeless beers that are far too often brewed in Belgium.
