This ale is brewed by the Meantime Brewery using 7 different malts and British hops from Kent (Fuggles and Goldings) to produce a very well balanced, traditional, London porter, a style of ale which dates back to 1750. Adding cinnamon and allspice adds a lovely aromatic depth, perfect for a winter warmer.

Old rating from 25-12-16 - This has been in my cellar for a year and was open today, Christmas Day. It pours dark brown colour with a beige head, which leaves lacings. Aromas of spice, dark fruits & hints of toffee. Taste also has spice, along with dried berries & dark fruits, cinnamon, toast & earth notes. The finish has a mild bitter end with grains, dark berries, cinnamon and hints of spice. Overall this is a beer that grows on you the further you get down the glass.

Bottle from the Brooklands branch. The all spice and cinnamon are pungent. Vague underlying charcoal. Dark brown. Foamy beige head disappears in seconds. Not as overly spiced as I was expecting. The sources are prominent but the base beer is medium-heavy bitter. The charcoal and dark chocolate are strong enough to come through. Medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Decent enough. Actually better than I was expecting.

500ml bottle. Pours brown, thin head, quite fizzy. Aroma of mild coffee roastiness, cinnamon, some allspice, hint of chocolate. Taste is a big hit of cinnamon with roasted malts, its semi sweet, some nutmeg is present. Body is too thin for this, light to medium, but the moderate bitter finish also includes a nice oiliness on the palate. Carbonation is almost like a lager for me and is very distracting. There are some nice flavours but overall a bit disappointing.

500ml bottle. Poured a slightly hazy reddish brown colour with a short-lived frothy white head. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruits, aromatic hops. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter, with a smooth rich, roasty, light liquorice charcoal, Christmas spicy, light floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Nose, is toffee, caramel, milk chocolate, hints of coffee and spice. Taste is malty, huge cinnamon, cloves, spice, chocolate, touch of cola, earth roast notes in the finish. It's fine but the cinnamon is massively over done to the point of being unpleasant.
