12 oz. bottle. Dark, clear, ruby-brown, with a small, foamy, tan head. The nose is light chocolate, figs, toast, toffee, and a bit of rye. Sweet, with a touch of dark sourness and some savory spice. Medium body, silky, chalky, and a little clingy. This is a solid, malty, and surprisingly complex beer.

Pour is a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is a nice roasty-sweet caramel malt. Flavor is all things malty. Big caramel malts with some black bread and maybe a little raison. Very tasty and malt heavy with low carbonation.

Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Clear amber with a beige head. Aroma of toasty malt, a bit caramelly, some floral hops and light fruitiness. Sweetish and malty flavor, toasty and caramelly, with light fruitiness and a mildly bitter finish with a bit of earthy and floral hops. Medium-bodied.

12oz bottle for this rating poured into a Chimay goblet glass. However, I have had his many times in my Kansas life. Bored at a party right now and decided to rate it. For what it is it’s good beer. A slightly sweeter and hoppy and roasty. Despite the roast I always considered this an English style beer and not an Altbier. Its drinkable, flavor, and not particular to any style if you ask me.
