Velvety black and perfectly opaque, this surprisingly smooth, drinkable beer is a delightful harmony of smoky roasted flavors and tangy, coffee-like notes. Available only on tap at fine establishments throughout our distribution region.

Bottle from D&J Liquor in St. Louis, MO. BB 05/08/08. But it’s bottle conditioned, so that’s not likely critical. Poured nice and black with a good tan head. Aroma of dark roasted/toasted malt. Medium body with somewhat frothy carbonation. Flavor is dark toasted malt with some hints of smoke. More than hints. Might qualify as a rauchbier. Finish is about the same. It’s a good refreshing stout with a smokey bent.

Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown with a thick frothy tan head that diminishes rather quickly. The aroma is roasted malt and dark chocolate. Sticky lacing on the glass. The taste is a sweet roasted malt with a smooth dry finish. A good dry stout from Boulevard.

Not overly impressed by this one. Very light aroma with moderate coffee malts and some lighty piney hops. Pours with a very creamy light brown head that goes away very quickly. Flavor is smoke and coffee and very dry the entire time. Mouthfeel is similarly dry and overly carbonated.

12 oz bottle from mreusch; nose is roasty with light mocha; clear dark cherry brown with a medium cinnamon-tan head; flavor has some light smoke, coffee, and some light hop bitterness. Decent but no way great!

Shared with fordest and padrefan98, thanks guys.

Pours dark dark brown with off white to tan head. The aroma is mild burnt malts, hints of vanilla and lactose. The flavor is thin with some burnt malts, light vanilla and not much else.

I have had this beer many times, and was surprised to see I had not rated it. Bottle. Pour is a nice black and tan. Aroma is a bit tame, though some light roast comes through. Very dry taste, subtle, quite good. Overall, a nice stout.

Bottle from santa - smokey, roasty aroma, with background chocolate malt - fairly dry, with a hard water and mineral quality that makes it seem pretty authentic - bitter espresso and a hint of creamy sweetness beneath the otherwise overall dry character - pretty decent.

A hazy deep red-brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of berries. The flavor is only slightly roasted combined with a light note of berries, and the body is thin. I find it boring, would like more power in the flavor.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Beautiful, clear dark red mahogany with a small, off-white head. Aroma of hard roasted malt. Rather light-bodied with a high carbonation - too fizzy actually. Burned, malty accents with a rather light, bitter finish. Not really an impressive effort. 200606

Bottled, thanks beerhandy! Black, small head. Fairly sweet with lots of coffee and some molasses. Clean, fizzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
