Jupiter's Legacy is a fruity blend of classic American cider apples - Harrison, Yates, Hyslop and Virginia Crab - augmented with several dessert varieties. This dry cider is fresh, clean, bright and lively on the tongue. It pairs elegantly with traditional American cuisine - pork and roast poultry - as well as cheeses, pates and sausages. The name of the cider is explained on the back label:

Two boys were born at Shadwell in 1743. One was Thomas Jefferson; the other, Jupiter Evans, a slave and Jefferson's most trusted servant for years. When Jupiter died in 1800, Jefferson wrote, "...he leaves a void in my domestic arrangements which cannot be filled." Cider was America's staple beverage well into the 19th Century, and among Jupiter's duties was the exacting task of bottling Monticello's cider production. "Malt liquors and cyder are my table drink," Jefferson noted, and wrote his daughter Martha that, "the death of Jupiter obliges me to ask of Mr. Randolph or yourself to give orders at the proper time in March for the bottling of my cyder."

Brown 750 via Press online. Deep, vibrant, medium gold, quick-hitting head.

Oaky chardonnay nose, a little white pepper & green veg.
Bittersharp, crab, leafy, medium tannins, a little leathery, lemon, acidy white grape on the finish.
Runny, & smooth, built up body, lots of belly warmth in this one. A big bottle to solo.

Cheers.

From a tasting flight at Albemarle CiderWorks. Poured a clear, very pale, almost clear yellow color with no head at all. Light tartness in this one, probably from the crab apples? Light champagne tartness. Flavor was mild apple. I liked this one, but the wife didn’t.

Bottle at the source. Dry, tart, and champagny. It’s fine, but not outstanding.

750ml bottle pours a clear gold with green shimmers, zero head and some light carbonation. Nice nose, crisp fruit, apple, apple skin, honey, pears champagne. A little bit of funk in the flavor, lightly sweet, lightly tart, apple, some candle wax, straw, light lemon. Dry finish. Hides the alcohol well. Fairly nice overall.

Phenolic aroma of apple and rubber with unripe strawberriy accents. Clear yellow, fair amount of carbonation. Dry and fizzy, apple flavor. Unremarkable and overly carbonated.

750 mL bottle from the cidery. Pours a clear pale yellow color with lots of fizz but not much of a head. Delicate champagne like aroma of apple and pear. Taste of dry and tart apple notes. Taste is champagne like also. Medium-full bodied.
