Commissioned tripel which is promoted as a typical Leuven city beer. Yellowish white, sticky, moussy head, thin, deep colour of ’old gold’, clear but hazy after adding the deposit. Sweetish fruity aroma on a background of pale malts, hints of banana, pineapple, apricot, ginger, vanilla, whisky, pepper, caramel, faint impression of DMS. Fresh fruity onset with sharpish, mineral-like carbonation, soft honeyish malt sweetness, drying up quickly because of badly hidden alcohol and a citrussy sourishness, soft grassy hop bitterishness in the finish, some sweetness there too but most of all alcohol, almost becoming astringent. Not that bad considering this hails from the Van Steenberge stable.

Bottle, courtesy of tderoeck (thanks a lot, Tim), pours a hazy amber orange with a very large foamy white head. Nose is very yeasty upfront, with secondary notes of stone fruits and floral notes. Flavour is very much the same, with a big dirty yeasty component and large fruitiness. Better than the average score suggests, just perhaps a bit too much yeast soupiness. Decent tripel.

12/VI/14 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home, shared with McBerko - BB: n/a (2014-624) Thanks to Beerlover_Ben for picking this one up for me!

Little cloudy orange beer, creamy to aery white head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of banana, orange peel, some apples. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: little metallic, pretty bitter, banana, bit sugary, somewhat fruity yeasty esters. Aftertaste: little sour, apples, apple skin, some banana, yeasty bitterness, bit sweet.

Standard Belgian tripel. Certainly not bad, just not special. Been there, done that.

Dark blond with very large head. Aroma has grass, mint and aniseed. There was an initial metallic taste but it doesn’t last. Flavour has some numbing clove. Otherwise quite sweet and sticky

33cl bottle @ home. Full sized off-white head on top of a clear orange colored beer. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, some alcohol and lightly fruits. A bit fizzy carbonation, medium body.

Bottle at De Metafoor, Leuven, Belgium Saturday 28th April 2012 Copper in colour in this light (quite dark in the pub) with a wonderful white head. Spices and minerally wafts on nose. Steady sweetness, and some spices in mouth, though the strength and alcohol is apparent. Soft mouthfeel, it is a good beer. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle at Biest poort in Leuven. Bright copper color, clear, thin white head with lots of lacing. Aroma of whiskey and butterscotch. Flavor has butter, caramel, whiskey and a gentle smoke finish. Complex, lots of character. My favorite beer in Leuven.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of fonefan. Hazy, pale golden with a tall and very lively, rough, white head that leaves some lacework. Sweetish, fruity nose with some alcohol. Quite full-bodied with sweetish, pale malts, fruit and diacetyl and a distinct alcohol in the finish. No bitterness. 120108

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a huge lazing fluffy white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of wheat and yeast as well as some ginger. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of spices and yeast as well as a light alcohol touch, that tickles the tongue.
