The ‘-ator’ suffix that’s found on the names of double bock beers around the world is one of the most respected traditions in a beer world that seems to be focused on ignoring standards and customs. Smuttynose is proud to adhere to that tradition in the naming, brewing methods and taste of S’muttonator Double Bock.
S’muttonator Double Bock displays the characteristically full malt flavor that can only come from using the best German specialty malts and a traditional decoction mashing technique. The extra effort also adds a lot of extra time to each batch, but that’s the only way to get the nuttiness, toffee notes and a characteristically smooth melanoidin character beer drinkers expect from a double bock. When you drink your S’muttonator, you’ll see that it’s time well spent.

Mycket trevlig.

Bomber courtesy of rlgk. Pours clear copper with a rather small frothy offwhite head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and slightly floral with bread, caramel, hay, moist soil, plums, lemon peal and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and slightly floral with sweet dark bread, toffee, caramel, prunes, hay, moist soil, walnuts, alcohol and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with sweet dark bread, toffee, hay, moist soil, walnuts, alcohol and lemon zest. Possibly but too sweet and slightly too boozy but I quite like it. Nice quite hoppy doppelbock!

Bottled:
Pours deep, clear amber with a mid sized head.
Sweet aroma of red berries, toffee, dark currants and a little bit of licorice.
Sweet and sticky mouth feel.
Malty flavour with hints of toffee, caramel, syrup and brown sugar leading to a boozy and bitter finish.
Pretty good, perhaps a little bit too strong.

Vielen Dank an Micha!

Bottle. Smuttonator pours with a ruby red/amber color with a medum sized light tan head. Aroma is sweet, almost sickly sweet with plenty of dried fruits (grapes, plumbs) with a boatload of caramel notes. Flavor is a malt bomb, with a nice undercurrent of dark fruits. Surprisingly, the alcohol is pretty well masked, but with all the residual sugars in this one, it really is noticeable if you’re drinking the entire bottle. Share this with friends.
