Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear deep golden color with a medium white head. Aroma of nice herbal, piney and slightly floral hops and some malt. Flavor has light malty sweetness with some caramel notes, herbal hops and a bitter finish, a bit alcoholic. Medium-bodied. Not bad, quite refreshing even (it’s not easy to find refreshing Heller Bocks).

Looks like a slightly darker pale lager and it smells like lager too but maybe a little sweeter onthe olfactory with a tad of dull hops. First taste is alky citrusy and malty bitter, Does have some old hop character down inside. A little heavy for a spring beer, eh? Yes, does little to hide the alky content. could be there is some medium ale hop effect in there. Bitter lingering mediicine.

From my dear brother: Pours a perfect pour, with a nice frothy white head and a golden orange body. Aroma is of candy, a touch of hops, sugar, and bread. The taste is what was the real surprise. Heller Bocks are a notoriously difficult style and this one knocked most of them out of the water. No alcohol burn (big plus!). Really smooth. Slight sweetness, with sort of bubblegum and European candy notes (difficult thing to explain...). A subdued hop bitterness is also present. Basically, my expectations were low, but instead I got one of the better Heller Bocks I’ve ever had.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear amber color, small off-white/white head. Aroma is light malts, grassy (almost like grass after a rainstorm), cloves. Flavor had notes of light malts, lemongrass, fresh cut grass, bitter hops. Certainly not what I expected, though not really in a bad way. Keep brewing beers like this.

Hay, lemon, and funk nose. Clear amber, thin head. Lemongrass and funk, light malty sweetness flavor. Flavorful for a bock and drinks like a belgian pale. Best beer I’ve had from Dominion in a long time.

Clear golden, slightly copper coloured body with a large white head and a few bubbles rising from the bottom - light for the style. Aroma of bitterness at first with a touch of shoe polish, bananas, cloves and some funky saaz or something hops in the mix - strong. Medium to Full-bodied; Pungent, alcohol flavour shows up first with a deep unrefined hop finish and a large taste of malt and alcohol - still. Aftertaste is strong and deep with the malt and bitter hops coming through most, but with a very chunky and thick mouthful and alcohol flavours everywhere. Overall, a pretty odd beer - way stronger than others from this style and a bit too potent and chewy for my tastes, especially this time of year. Surprisingly characteristic for this brewery from Delaware with a Virginian sounding name - if they try beers like this and connect with a few, I might have some actual respect for a once-respectable brewery. I sampled this twleve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 05-February-2011 for US$1.29 sampled at home a day later on 06-February-2011 in Washington.

12 ounce bottle from a local Kroger. Pours a clear amber color with a medium frothy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted malts and bitter floral, spicy hops. The taste is caramel malts, some toastiness, bitter herbal hop notes. Lingering bitterness. Medium bodied. Decent, but fairly boring.
