Bottle from Albert Heijn, Warmond. Poured a hazy straw colour with a round white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt. The flavour is moderate sweet with a yeasty, sweet malt, fruity, light alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for this 25cl bottle! Smooth and fresh. Mild with nice grainy aroma. Very soft and round, smooth with hints of sweetness. Not a typical Abbey beer, but interesting and easy to drink!

Tasted under the new label, bottle shared by Craftmember, with different label than before and now formally called "De Leckere Paulus Koyt Organic", though the - meaningless - reference to abbey beer is still mentioned somewhere on the side. Irregular, cream white, coarse, lacing head, quickly breaking in the middle but steady on the edge, over a lightly hazy yellow blonde beer with greenish hue, becoming deeper ochre-ish ’old gold’ and fully clouded with sediment. Aroma of apple peel, gooseberry, cider, soggy bread, pear, rainwater, hay, soap (coriander?), camomile. Lightly fruity, refreshing onset, impressions of apple, pear, some banana and apricot, subdued sweetness with a sourish edge, soft carbonation, lightly metallic feel, notably soapy wheatiness (Weizen-like - wheat malt effectively being an important part of the malt bill here), supple and lean, somewhat ’fluffy’; sweetish, bready maltiness next to this soapy wheatiness, honeyish touch connecting nicely with retronasal floral aromas in the end. No deep end bitterness, though an earthy hoppiness is certainly there - and, from a purist point of view, injustly so, as a typical ’koyt’ or ’kuyt’ should be unhopped. Coriander adds further soapiness and some ’jenever’-like alcohol warms the throat. Pleasant enough but too soapy and sweet for me. I fail to see any link with ’abbey beer’ (at least in the traditional Belgian sense of the word) and I do not think this beer adds a lot to the growing Dutch beer scene, compared with the countless more adventurous ones active today, but admittedly it is technically well-made and pleasant enough.
