Little John’s local bees create a spring wildflower-honey that lends a sweet, earthy complexity to a traditional style of beer with a balancing snap of ginger in the finish.

draft at Trion in New Haven, IN - Pours amber with a one finger off-white head. It smells of honey (duh) and spicy yeast. The flavor is sweet with dark honey featuring quite prominently along with some malts, yeast, and maybe a hint of fruitiness but it’s not coming through as much as many brews in this style. It’s medium bodied, bubbly, and pretty unusual tasting for a tripel. While alright, to me it’s not a high end brew worth the premium.

Bottle from Wine and Beer Westpark on 08/26/2010. Very clear copper amber body with a medium rocky off-white head. Sweet belgian spice and honey aroma. Sweet spice flavor, light ginger notes, and a bit of honey. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers 6 Pack this beer poured a dark caramel amber color with a medium sized foamy beige head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was faint sweet honey, light fruits and nut. The flavor was sweet and malty with a faint bitterness and a fairly intense honey and bananabread elementsa and a long bitter honey finish. Medium body. Nice.

Sample at Barley’s Smokehouse, served in a snifter. This beer is a dark copper color with a thin and creamy beige head that recedes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of honey, ginger and malt. Medium body with flavors of fruit, yeast, honey and malt. The finish is sweetly spiced with a malty aftertaste and a hint of alcohol. Decent beer overall.

On tap. Poured a clear reddish brown with a gray head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was sweet with honey and sweet grains and just a hint of warming alcohol. Flavor had the same main notes with honey and sweet grains with some caramel in the finish.
