On tap at the Capital Alehouse (downtown), Richmond VA 9/11/2011. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and pumpkin aroma. Flavour had milk chocolate, more pumpkin and a hint of cinnamon and sweetish finish. Ok.

Bottle. Deep brown body. Short, beige head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of roasted malts, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, fresh vegetables. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. medium body, watery texture and moderate carbonation. Combining roasted malts with spice and pumpkin produces an odd flavor. Spiced pumpkin pie with chocolate? Just OK.

Deep rich dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head that tops the beer nicely and a lightly clear brown at the very bottom - around 70% opaque. Aroma of rich squash and pumpkins, a bit of alcohol, yeast, coriander seed and the very strong smell of nutmeg and allspice. Light-bodied; Sharp squash and toasty flavours up front, but a relatively watery taste soon afterwards, kind of mutes the taste. A little spices near the end, but a surprisingly understated beer, considering the pour and the smells. Aftertaste has a bit of a medicinal and slightly metallic note, with a touch of the spices and not much else. Overall, not such a strong beer, primarily due to the weak flavours and the thin body - interesting, because it seems to have a lot of potential when it comes out of the bottle. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 09-October-2011 for US$1.49 sampled at home in Washington on 27-October-2011.

Aroma: The nose is sweet and spice, some nutmeg, pumpkin, bread, and malts.
Appearance: The pour is a brown color with a light brown head that lasts through the full drink.
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose but more subtle, light-medium sweet, minimal bitterness.
Palate: The body is medium, and it drinks decently, the duration is average, and the carbonation is soft.
Overall Impression: Overall, I thought this beer was OK. It could have had the pumpkin notes be a little more pronounced, but it wasn't bad. I thought this one was a little deceiving in that it smelled better then it tasted, but it was still solid stuff.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown, with a tan-brown head. Aroma was roasted malts, touch of spice. Certainly the porter character dominates over the pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices - to a certain extent that’s to be expected, the beer is a lot darker and contains more robust ingredients that will normally overpower something like this. There’s just enough hints of pumpkin in this one that it’s pretty enjoyable.

Classic pumpkin pie aroma, clove in the forefront, lesser notes of cinnamon and allspice. Mahogany, medium tan head. Tart and chalky. Fairly nondescript flavor of charcoal and perhaps a bit of pumpkin. The pumpkin spice appears well afterward, in only minute amounts. innovative and nicely done. The spice appears to be added only to give it a neat nuance. This beer is porter first and pumpkin ale last. too tart, but a good beer.

Parting gift courtesy of GT2, thanks! Extremely dark brown, medium brown head. Aroma of burnt squash and dark cocoa. Taste is oddly sour dark fruit. I like the aroma, the taste is OK, especially for a 5% beer.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a large brown head. Smells of some light pumpkin, malts, some spice. Taste is lightly sour... hint of spice. Vegetable matter lingers. Not nearly as good as I’d expected.

Served on cask at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA on 7/10/11. Pours a very dark brown color with a large tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of pumpkin, more pumpkin and spices. The taste is pumpkin, spices, roasted malts and a lightly bitter finish. Fairly generic, but a decent beer.
