Thick creamy foamy head. Chocolate brown colored pour. Bits of dark chocolate, some fruit flavor. Caramel, nougat, walnut, and sherry nose. Light bodied and light carbonation.

Caramel and light clove. Some hint of florals and a little rust. Hazy brown pour with decent head and lacing. Ckean finish with hint of floral musk. Tap at Glens in Shaw.

12oz bottle pours a clear, deep amber with a ring of white head. Nose has malt, some candy sugar, dried fruits, raisins, dried cherries, a little cream soda, some mild orange. Flavor has some candy, lots of fruit cake, cream soda, slightly metallic, a little bit of carrot. Lightly oily finish. Fairly easy drinking for 7%.

Nice brown coloured body with a thin deep tan coloured head and almost no movement at all. Aroma of malt, caramel, nuts, light spices and even some fresh hops tucked in the mix. Medium-bodied; Good pungent caramel and toffee sweetness up front with a subtle spice kick and some good pungent malt in the backend. Aftertaste is nice with some light coffee and bitterness, a little alcohol warmth, but the real showpoint here is the malt and light hop balance - its done almost perfectly. Overall, a nice beer - I wouldn’t really say this is an Old Ale, but i’m not sure what else I’d classify it as - its too strong and complex for an Amber and not nutty/malty enough for a Brown. It’s still a good beer, not amazing, but well worth sampling if you can find it. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Opera House Gourmet in Manassas, Virginia on 12-March-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 07-April-2011.

Draft: Weak malt aroma. Clear brown, thin head. Very nutty, slightly piney bitter bite in the end. Rustic and earthy. A "getting back to nature beer". alcohol not noticeable. A very nice brown ale but I don’t sense the character of an old ale as much.

Draft at Paradiso Alexandria. Amber color, tan head. Aroma of caramel. Taste has tons of malt, but this one’s a bit plain.

Draft. Pours a dark orange-brown color with a near-tan head. Aroma is malts, with touches of dark fruits. Flavor has touches of caramel, touches of pine hops, decent winter beer, not too much of a alcohol hit, but just enough to warm up.

Aroma: Nose has some roasted and burnt malts, smoke, fruits, burnt toast
Appearance: Pours a very dark reddish-brown color with a fizzy tan head
Flavor: Tastes of semi-sweet malts, smoke, burnt toast, and a light hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a somewhat short duration, and a slightly dry mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I can't believe I've never rated anything from Blue Mountain, I know I've had their beers before, not this one, but others, but somehow I haven't rated any of them on here. Anyway, I didn't love this beer, but I liked it. It certainly could have been better though. I'd like to see them put a little more effort into this one, because I think it has potential.

Bottle, $2.10 at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Smells of sweet malts. Flavor of sweet dark fruit, malt, and bitter copper.

Bottle on 11/01/2008 courtesy of dkachur. Clear deep ruby body with a medium creamy light brown head. Sweet roasty and lightly chocolate aroma, with faint fruity hints. Roasty flavor with fruity hints in the background and a nice bitterness lingering behind. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
