As the 500-year-old Mühlviertel tradition goes, on special occasions brewery workers would fill large buckets (Kübel) with beer directly from the fermentation tanks. They would then pass around this extremely fresh, unfiltered beer and drink from the Kübel in turn. Because none of the proteins, yeast, or hop essences had been filtered out, this beer was fuller and more aromatic than any other they served. For this exact reason, our former head brewer, Franz Krammer, took it upon himself to bring this age-old tradition back to life.

Rating from 3-22-2010...it exploded all over the floor and sink "how do you describe that smell??"....cloudy light copper ..no head...think it landed all on the floor....tastes like bitter dirty pennies (or at least how they smell)....the palate...who cares...well at least I have an Austrian beer for the book!

Bottle on 06/05/2011. Clear golden amber body with some small floating particulate and a small creamy white head. Sweet honey and spicy hop aroma. Sweet cheerios, floral and spicy hop flavor with a bit of honey caramel and a very dry finish. Tap at awesome Austrian restaurant in NYC called cafe katja. Pours hazy yellow withnpillowy white head. Tastes bready, creamy, hoppy, grassy, grainy, with citrus. Good carbonation slight sweetness on finish. Decent

New Beer Distributors, NY 50cl ($4.60): Pours a sediment filled orange colour with a colourful head. Aroma is caramel malt, some spice, and a bit of sugar. Taste is lightly sweet with a hoppy finish and a slight aftertaste that lingers for a bit. Caramel-type sweetness is most prominent. Light in flavour, but medium in body. There is definitely also a nice fruitiness throughout. This beer is more complex than it initially might seem.

A hazed golden lager with a thin white head. In aroma, a nice grainy malt with classic chalkey notes. In mouth, a good crisp and classy malt with good german hops, bitterness, medium bodied. Smooth! On tap at ChurchKey DC with ArgoO, Sept. 16 2010.

500 ml bottle picked up for me by beastiefan2k. Chg No 31902091 printed on back label. Pour is a cloudy hace orange golden with a noisy two inch white head that falls with soapy lacing. Pretty. Aroma is mildly sweet malt, along with an earthy dirtiness and mineral note. Taste is the mild biscuit sweetness of the malt, followed close behind with a nice toasted grain and finishing with the earthy mineral. A spicy / grassy hoppiness is present throughout. The sweetness returns, and lingers some in the long finish. Palate is unfiltered, medium to light bodied, an almost creamy mouthfeel that is paired with effervescent carbonation that along with the mineral, dries the beer out nicely. Easy drinking, fun beer.
