Oud Beersel Kriek Lambic from Brouwerij Oud Beersel is a classic among Belgian beers. Created by adding whole fresh cherries to young lambic, which provides both seasoning and sparks another fermentation resulting in a product of great complexity. It has the acidity of champagne, the bouquet and delicate flavor of cherries, and balance of almondy dryness. Oud Beersel Kriek is the missing link between beer and wine.

Sampled at Max's Belgian Fest 2024. Pours a clear but very dark purple, no head. Nose is huge cherry and merlot. Good expression of the fruit. Flavor has cherries and red grapes, some tannins and dried cranberry. Tart cherry and berry finish.

Bottled. Ruby red with a small pink head. Aroma is cherries, some tart wooden tones with mild herbs too. Flavour is rather dry cherries, wood and some slight nutty tones. Nicely dry palate.

Corked and caged bottle picked up at Hop and Hound for far less than the average price point for style. Solid kriek here, quite enjoyable, and its been a minute since I've had a brew in this style I love. Dark ruby red appearance. Tart cherry nose, soft funk. Flavor is plenty of sour cherries, while maintaining a fresh fruit feel. Cool and flavorful constant. Delicious brew.

From bottle at Le Poechenellekelder, Brussels, 28.11.17. Dark red. Pink head. Fine aroma of fresh cherries. Superb taste of fresh cherries, well balanced moderate sourness. Quite dry and lively carbonated. Excellently quaffable!

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark burgundy with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out sugary cherries and light funk. Flavour is very sweet, with sugary cherries drowning out everything else. No funk or depth. It's a pleasant sweet fruit beer, but nothing else.
