The winner of Baltimore Magazine’s “Best Beer in Baltimore 1998.” We’d like to thank the smooth, roasted malt flavor. The mild hop presence. The little people.

Okay, very much a mid-Oughts style red ale, with husky grain and toast on the front end and a modest pine bitterness on the back. Yeasty middle mixes with slight citrus before heading into a gentle fade. Decent.

Best beer in Baltimore, 20 years ago. Amber color. There are nuts in the aroma. Simple malt flavor, balance of bitter and sweet flavors with a dry bread dough finish.

Bottle, stronger red ale character from the start. A little more orangish yellow than an iced tea eye. Cold, almost friendly but never quite gits there. Seems like it has more alky than 5%, yessserrrreee. Good amber ale, almost enjoyable, heheheh. Best beer in baltimore? 1998? Can't be, must not of known wild sour brews. Who were the judges? Just asking.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a nut brown color with an orange hue and a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was toasty and a bit woody with hints of cola and dark fruits. The flavor was toasty, malty and woody with roasty malts and a hint of fruity hops. Medium length finish. Medium body Meh.

Tap at Duclaw at BWI. Ruddy brown, offwhite lace. Fruity roast, medium light sparkly mouthfeel, crisp grassy finish. Pleasant and fresh, not that engaging.

The blonde was better than this but they are pretty similar besides the color. Pours maroon with OK head. Light crisp barley finish. Easy drinking. Tap at BWI brewpub.
