Cask at Cigar City Brewing Cask for a Cause. Dark brown, small tan head, scant lacing. Aroma of scotch and caramel. Taste has chocolate, malt-o-milk balls and plenty of alcohol. Nice brew.

On tap at Mr. Dunderbak’s in Temple Terrace, FL. They really bring in the good stuff.
Poured up in a nice Gulden Draak tulip glass. It has a hazy orange-ish brown-ish body, off white head and cobweb lacing. The aroma is fairly big with wood booze notes of whiskey, some oak, rotten tangelo sourness and some faint malts and hops from the base beer. I think the mixing of sharp tart un-ripe grapefruit and boozy wiskey creates a rotting citrus note to the whole experience. The taste begins like the nose with boozy – whiskey infused with mild oak notes. Rotting grapefruit citrus then wells up just after and peaks about midway where pine hop bitterness begins to make an appearance to interrupt the tart to sour un-ripe grapefruit. Some malt sweetness pokes out briefly before the finish. It ends with booze and sour grapefruit juice and a faint oak note going deep into the after taste. Very cool experience but nothing I’d prefer to drink too often.

Tap at HDG - hazy amber beer - boozy and doughy aroma, which becomes a bit more alcoholic as it warms, with some cherry and vanilla - tastes less boozy than the aroma, but again, as it warms, the alcohol becomes strong to the point of being solvent-like - tastes of dried fruits, dough (cookie) - rye comes to the fore late, along with vanilla, hazelnut and herbs - would be quite tasty if the alcohol weren’t so powerful.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a light tan head. Light citrus hop aroma with shiskey and caramel. Light citrus (orange, grapefruit) flavor with whiskey, caramel, and vanilla. Lingering malt, caramel, oak, and vanilla. Medium body. Hop bitterness lingers and almost clashes with whiskey barrel notes.

I was hesitant to try this beer because I dont see the point of barrel aging hoppy beers but they were able to pull this off. Its still very hoppy which makes me believe that it is a blend of aged barrel and fresh beer. However, plenty of fruit alcohol coming from the barrel and it does not come off boozy, nicely accents the hops. Has a medium-light body, low on bitterness despite the hops and rye whiskey.
Tap at Blind Tiger, tulip glass.

Draft at the Bistro’s West Coast BA Fest, 11/10/07;Nose of Butter (diacetyl) with some caramel, no hops; Hazy rust with a small ring of beige bubbles; flavor was bourbon and buttery popcorn; absolutely gross! They did something wrong brewing this batch.
