Bottle opened with an air gun crack but no gushing! Opaque dark brown beer with a medium size pale tan head. Palate is slightly soft but with decent carbonation. Airy creamy malt. A little wood. Mellow semi sweet cognac with well integrated generic fruits. Mild minerals and a touch of lactose. Bittersweet cognac to finish.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a small, long lasting tan head. It has an aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, and alcohol. The fruit is clearly more pronounced than it is in the regular Catherine the Great. The flavor is of sweet chocolate with dark fruit. The barrel was good for this beer and I liked it noticeably more than the regular Catherine brew.

Bottle from Magnum’s Cigar, Wine and Liquor, Phoenix, AZ
Brown color; extreme carbonation, and consequent huge head, solid. Mild aroma, caramel, with some alcohol, an impression of French cheese rind (Brillat-Savarin), and possibly a fruity trace from the Cognac. The body is strong and, after the carbonation left the glass, also round; strong caramel and malt flavor, quite sweet, with rhubarb candies, nuts; correct bitterness; there is a fruity vein from the Cognac, subtle and adding some complexity; the alcohol can be perceived in the final, but it’s a pleasant feeling. Balanced, moderately complex, very good.
