Bottled. Pours dark reddish brown. Nice head which leaves lacing. Aroma is caramel malts. Taste is strong of the same. Bit of toffee & light bitter.

Bottle, Harris Teeter (Barracks Road). Pours slightly hazy reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, pine, nuts. Flavor is chocolate, pine, citrus peel, nuts, sweet caramel, dark fruits. A bit too sweet for me, perhaps, but still kinda tasty.

Bouteille 600ml du Canada Craft Club. Profil olfactif assez caramélisé avec notes de crème brulée, et une perception de cerises au marasquin. Perception de houblons résineux discrets et de fruits tropicaux. Puissance olfactive moyenne. Un col immense sur un liquide rougeâtre à la limite du brun. Limpidité remarquable. Mousse éternelle. L’entré de bouche laisse place à des notes de caramel brulé se déclinant dans une finale mi- houblonnée et mi- maltée avec la présence de noisettes, de grain et une amertume résineuse assez astringente. L’équilibre sucré / amertume est notable mais ces éléments se déclinent de façon très distincte en bouche. La classification ’’Double Red Ale’’ du brasseur est plus juste que la classification RB. Ressemble beaucoup à un Barley Wine sauf pour l’amertume de grain qu’elle développe. Assez réussie. Bien amère et bien sucrée.

A pretty deep red. Toasted malt with some light caramel, some faint citrus, and a rounded malt toned hop bitterness. I wish it was a bit rougher.

Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. Tan head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Dark caramel and resin aromas. Thick with dark caramel and mild pit fruit upfront turning to marshmallow before the lasting bitter resin finish. Good, but I think this one is a little over-aged - would love to try fresh.

Bottle thanks to Sarah! Pours a clear deep red with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread and grain notes with a bit of grassy hops and just a hint of grapefruit. Flavor has more of a combination of grass, bread, grapefruit and sweet grains as well as a hint of caramel.

Keg at the taproom, 10/11/14. Clear reddish amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is earthy hop, mineral notes, pine, candied fruits. Taste comprises bitter orange, candied fruit peel, sweet notes, earthy hop. Medium body, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with hop bitterness. Ok stuff.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours dark red with a cream head. Aroma is burnt caramel, plenty of hops, and more variety of malt aromas. Taste is like a double IPA that sat for a while, but more so. The burnt caramel is powerful in this one, as is the toffee. However, it is not really all that sweet as a result of the strong hop bitterness. This really isn’t my cup of beer.

Dark amber color with red-copper hue, clean, creamy head. Nice caramel aroma, a bit toasted and biscuity, and strong hopping. Round and smooth mouthfeel; powerful caramel flavor, skillfully supported by moderate sweetness and marked biscuit and toasted malt; strong bitterness, in balance, and loaded with resins and some fruits; very long final. The relatively contained alcohol content increases the drinkability.

Purchased at Wally’s in Los Angeles, CA; enjoyed while walking the beach in Santa Monica on a gorgeous day. I didn’t take tasting notes, but remember this going down very smooth with rich, sweet malty notes and a huge white head. Pretty good stuff.
