15/2/2025. Bottle at the ITFC vintage and rare Saturday share part 2. From Salthouse, Brockley. Pours close to black with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, rum truffle, roasted malts, toffee, marshmallow, slightly meaty edge. Rich taste, quite boozy. Full bodied, smooth, low carbonation. Great sipper.

33cl bottle. pours extremely dark/black, settles with a small brown head. aroma of boozy rum, lots of roasted malts, some undefined sweetness, perhaps marsmallows, faint green grapes. not woody at all, more like the flavor you get from a red wine stored on metal. so a slightly boozy (rum) fairly uncomplex imp stout (more or less as advertised). Flavor is more complex than aroma and has more roasted malts going on, both initially and in a lingering hard roasted almost charred woody ending, which is very well rounded and the rum works super well out there. faint marsmallow or whatever sweetness, some vanilla, fortunately the hard roasted malty flavor dominates and makes a darn good super solid imp. stout. the charred woodiness from the malts also makes the entire brew much more woody in flavor than in aroma. Great imp stout where the pastry did not ruin it all, but just added a bit of charactar and complexity. Daring use of hard roasted malts but it worked.

Bottle at home. Two year old. Has a dark brown to black colour with a very small beige head. Aroma of soy sauce, brown sugar, dark chocolate, rum and caramel. Flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, rum, ash, oak and warming alcohol in the end. Has a slick and silky mouthfeel, full-bodied and a light bitterness. Rich, roasted and with nice caramel and rum tones.

Appearance is very dark, no head to speak of. Aroma is toffee, coffee, fudge cake, chocolate, oaky, bourbon, vanilla, boozy notes, treacle toffee. Smells the part. Taste is chocolate, treacle toffee, scorched malts, boozy dark fruit, brownie, caramel, dark rum, vanilla, whisky, hints of oaky char, lengthy finish. Mouthfeel is full and coating. Great.
