Available in most places in Cuba, the fun part is finding an alternative to it, but there are a few - most bars I went to across the country had this and only in bottles. This is normal lager but refreshing enough under the sun.

Another beer from my trip to Cuba back in 2001. Cold it was a standard lager but warm it was gross. The glass bottle and strong sun in Cuba means it can become skunky pretty easily...

Cuba whale, thanks to Leighton. Aged in a shop window apparently. It pours pale yellow with a medium white head. The nose is paper, chemically, stale pale malt and odd spiciness. The taste is straw, paper and carbonated water with a dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. No real taste about it, but it is actually better than expeected!

’Paul takes a brown shower’ tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton for the country tick. Light haze on this gold beer, little white head. Mild carbonation. Papery pale malt with saccharin sweetness. Whisper of citrus. Dry light finish. Typical macro lager rubbish.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London - sourced from Drinkers’ Paradise. This beer, in its green bottle, was thoughtfully window-aged by the good proprietors at the Drinkers’ Paradise. Clear, pee-gold with a fine, creamy white head. Nose carries cereal. Some husky grains, a bit of paper. Medium sweet flavor, lots of cereal, some corn, papery biscuits, faint straw bitterness. Light bodied with fine to average, creamy carbonation. Sweet finish, some white sugar, straw, paper, cereal grains. The sun has done well by this beer.

Bouteille. de couleur dorée pâle et claire. Léger nez de grains de malt pâle avec des notes de houblon herbeux et des traces de maïs sucré. Mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et aux notes croustillantes ainsi qu’une texture aqueuse. Léger goût de grains de malt pâle lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi d’un avec un très léger goût de maïs sucré et en finale, l’on retrouve des notes amères de houblon herbeux avec des traces métalliques. Post-goût court comprenant des notes amères de houblon herbeux et des traces métalliques.

Appearance: Clear yellow color with a big frothy white head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Light malty and a bit fruity.
Palate: A bit light body. Moderate sweet and a light bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Mild caramel malt and light hoppy.
Overall impression: Thinking that I and Fidel are now drinking the same beer is an ok feeling. I want to go to Cuba!

35 cl bottle at Söders Hjärta, Stockholm. On November 13, 2012.Clear golden color, small white head. Sweet, malty scent. Sweet, sugary, malty taste. Medium to spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness.

Ogi brought this to Matt and then I realized I didn’t have it before, and he was willing to share, of course (thanks!). Poured a slightly pale golden body with a small white head that went away fast. Almost no aroma, vague herbal and sweet malty notes. Sweet, light corny fresh taste. Guess it would be ok in their weather, but taken out of context, it’s not worth much, even if it’s not undrinkable. Hey, in a strange way I liked it better than Edelstoff.
