Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon, oak, sweet vanilla, berries, brown sugar, some chocolate. Flavour is quite sweet, syrupy and vanilla. This is a Barleywine. Being more of a fan of Imperial Stouts than Barleywines, I was a little disappointed with this one.

Tap at Winterbierfestival. Gouda: Very black brew of the Masters of Barrel Brewing. Taste of roasted malts, coffee and Bourbon vanilla.

Bottled. Black colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is whisky, some raisins, alcohol, caramel and some liquorice as well as some plummy tones. Flavour is whisky, some vanilla, alcohol, wood and mild chocolaty and liquorice elements. Long sweet alcoholic and chocolaty aftertaste with some whisky sweetness as well.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Bourbon dominating the aroma. Dried fruit. Full bodied. Thick mouthfeel. Very low on carbon. Oak, vanilla, bourbon dominating the flavor. Caramel, milk chocolate. Boozy, but very pleasant.

Aus der Flasche (bottled 2013-01-28) im 2018-05 getrunken. Dieses Stout hat irgendwie ein merkwürdiges Aroma von einer Art von Gummi bekommen. Das ist zwar schräg aber stört kaum beim Trinken, da eine volle Schokonote und eine deutliche Süße darüber steht. Am Gaumen ist nichts vom Gummi zu entdecken und die dunkle Schokolade domminiert dieses Stout. Ansonsten ist es hervoragend ausbalanciert und harmonisch. Von ein Barrel Aged ist nichts wahrzunehmen. Unter dem Strich ist diese Gumminote ein klarer Minuspunkt bei diesen Stout.

Wenig karbonisierter, süß malziger Antrunk. Minimal herb, recht trocken, dunkle Malznoten. Eher milder Mittelteil, Holznoten, alkoholisch. Nicht übermäßig toll. 8/8/9/8/11/8

Bottle thanks to MrH, 2013 vintage. Pours clear mahogany, minimal head or lacing. Some beige bubbles perhaps. Aroma is molasses and bourbon, cocoa. Flavor is fairly sweet, molasses and bourbon again, with some chocolate and vanilla notes. Light bitterness, not much ABV heat. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, minimal carbonation. Interesting.

Bottle, bottled 01.2013 (shared by fatphil, thanks). Pours dark brown with beige head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is sweet, malt, caramel, fruits, honey, vanilla, slight bourbon. Flavor is sweet and malty, caramel, fruits, banana, spices, salt, nuts, vanilla. Finish is dry bitter. Overall: very good, but more stronge ale than ba istout for me.
